I just do it at work. Soon as 5.30 comes I'll have better things to do. I'm sure you can imagine how productive I've been today.

Sorry to say saints will be mid - league club and with manager and players coming and going unless we spend £150m+ on players to be on next level with the likes of PL teams Man.United ,Liverpool and Man city's for Champions League places which I cant see happing

We will always be selling club and by start of the new season with our manager (gone or good as) and also some our top players we be using more players coming through our academy set-up for first team
With us finishing 8th and only be mid table next season or lower

I've said it before: the big clubs in this league have not needed to spend £150m+ every season to get where they are. If we want to get there in one season, sure, £150m might be about right. But doing it in one season is not the only way to do it. When was the last time you saw Everton spend that kind of money? How often do Arsenal even have a positive net spend?!

arsenal have a positive net spend by leveraging their privileged position to get bargains and falling well behind over the years. it's only just paying off now in terms of ramsay and walcott.

We had to spend a lot to get to the PL because we were down to the bones. We then were one of the higher spenders over the last couple of seasons as we tried to build a PL team. As we had such a small squad, errors such as Mayuka, Lee and Osvaldo had a bigger effect on us than they would on other teams. We needed players to land running. We can't expect that spending to go on...it will take quite a few years to get to the level of other teams. Bearing that in mind, 8th was blinding.

You've missed out how much money they've made selling players. We produce a lot of valuable players ourselves, don't ya know.

Just for having talks, with Spurs, I would like the board to put MP on gardening leave, and refuse to release him from his contract, until:-
    1) we have replaced him and kick started our summer plans.
    2) Spurs are staring down the barrel of the new season, without a confirmed manager.
    3) we have made it clear that no key player will be sold to Spurs.

    that comes under falling behind.

sorry not specific enough. I was trying to be succinct.

arsenal started with the best team in the land and are now fourth. that's how they have a positive net spend.

They started in the second division in 1893. If you're trying to say it's the reason they haven't won the league since they last won it, then yeah, there's a good case that it's because they haven't spent enough on players, but it's hardly like they bought the league when they did win it.

was the discussion about how arsenal got to the top of the premier league from 25th place in the pyramid in around 30 years with a positive net spend? sorry. my mistake ;)

i'm under the impression that the positive net spend is a feature of the wenger regime. am I wrong?

Well when I mentioned it I was just going on a basis of individual seasons. Whether the club has earnt more than it has spent during the Wenger regime I don't know, but if it has then that's both fantastic and proving my point very nicely because the man has won trophies.

MP will be the first manager since Redknapp to leave us without getting sacked, we've had 9 different guys in charge since then and sacked them all.

Nahhh. Didn't Burley leave us for Scotland? Or is my memory just dreadful? Also I think Pearson was just a case of not being renewed because of financial constraints.

It looks as though he's on his way, which is a shame. He should have given you another season.

I think it worked best when he was the first guy who recognised the untapped potential in france. later when he was the manager of the biggest club to see the untapped potential in france, then later still, it all dismantled in front of him and he was left waiting for the kids he bought to come good.

It might have been more to do with strict budgets imposed by the owners in order to achieve somewhat of a rarity and try to make a profit.

    OH AND WE'RE BACK IN!

But seriously, I think his approach has been fantastic and he's been let down largely by his players bottling it and injuries. This season just gone they showed they are capable of winning the league.

Correct about Pearson , though not sure about financial reasons , IIRC it was because Crouch asked Lowe to keep him so Lowe deliberately didn't ....... .

He was lucky Ramsey finally came good this season. You can argue it was never in doubt, but the timing was fortunate for him.

The net spend last season was something like £30m?
