If it wasn't for the wiggling, i'd 100% agree with that. It's probably something between the 2.

I do genuinely think he was trying for a quicker time in the first sector knowing that if he felt he didn't nail it cleanly, he had an ace up his sleeve, thus wiggled and induced a lock up and a dive up the slip road.

I hope he did do it deliberately tbh. Really feel Nico is a bit timid at times, doesn't have the ruthlessness of a true winner when it comes to exploiting situations to his advantage and overtakes, Well if that was deliberate today it shows he's up for the fight. Mind games are part of racing.

Would also say calling it hollow or tainted is wrong, simple fact is Lewis didn't get the job done earlier when Rosberg did. What's to say another car wouldn't have slid off in the last minute? you can't always rely on a last gasp lap, if you do, that's a chance you take, deliberate or not.

Lewis really needs to decide what he wants, comes out saying he wants a challenge then sulks like a wee boy when somebody dares to give him one and he doesn't come out on top from it.. fine when he wins it though, eh?

Same with any sport/game really... It's great while your winning, not so great when you're not.

To me, it looked like a normal lock up, but why he chose to turn left and go in the run off area when it looked to me he could have still made the corner?

Yet, in the heat of the moment, I genuinely doubt Rosberg is that cool, calculating and malicious that he wanted yellows to ruin Lewis' lap. In fact, I'm sure of it. Nico thought he had the pace to beat Lewis this weekend, and there's no way he knew Lewis was going faster. The race will be slightly more interesting with Nico in front, but I still suspect it'll be the usual Monaco dross, after 15 laps of the typical "oooooooh Monaco, historic, ooooohhhhh they go through a tunnel with pretty lights, ooooohhhh a yacht with sexy latinos on it" has completely lost it's appeal because of the tedium of the procession.

Hamilton will harry and harass for the first ten laps, then his tyres will have gone off. He stops first, game over.

Really decent off-air analysis of the incident from Davidson and Herbert:

I'm far from being an expert, but I'd hope that he was trying to improve his time to make it harder for Lewis to beat it. He made a mistake by doing so and that's racing. I'm sure he's an honest guy and wouldn't want people to think otherwise.

For me, surely inducing a lock up is too risky on a track like Monaco? Sure, you might simply pull into the run off area but you equally might put it in the barriers and end up starting from the pitlane?

As was mentioned before, I think the real story is Hamilton's reaction to the whole thing.

Yeah Hamilton reacted to someone cheating , knowing that they did not have the skill to beat him in qualifying, Christ what a sore loser he is. :S

Anyway this all matters not one jot, Rosberg got away with it. Gloves off for the rest of the season. My money is on Hamilton to start handing out the spankings now and have no mercy in rubbing his face in it!

    Sigh....

    Anyways,

    From Amus' Tobais Gruner

    Tobias Grüner F1 @tgruener · 2h

AMuS exclusive: Telemetry shows: Both Merc braked 8m later in T1 compared to 1st run. ROS braked 10m later into Mirabeau T5. Too late :)
Timing data also shows: ROS 6,9 kph faster on his final run. Measuring point S1/S2 on straight before Mirabeau. pic.twitter.com/NB7zYqfhsF
