Will Pochettino stay or go?

Poyet is favourite to replace him at the moment.

 

Moyes might not play as attractive a game as MP but we'd do ok with him. Don't think we'd get him though and there's a few above him for me.

 

DTLW yesterday pointed out that if you were manager of Vallecano or Celta Vigo, and Valencia or Sevilla came knocking, most would be out the door in a flash. If you honestly think you'd stay in mid table, more power to you, but I know I wouldn't be - as such I can't possibly hate Pochettino for this.

 

I was told he wanted to stay and was making plans for next season and was genuinely happy by someone who was in daily contact with Pochettino. So for me the board are in the wrong, not Pochettino.

 

Having watched every home game under both managers I can tell you who I believe is the better manager. If you can't see it, fair enough not my problem. Level playing field? Excuse? Resentment? Clear as day to me.

I feel like a lot of you have just been dumped by your girlfriend and you're telling your mates she wasn't as good a shag as the previous one anyway. I bet you still think if her at night though

 

Scary to think that if Les Reed were to go we'd likely be up **** creek.

 

Talking of which, Vallecano manager please! Most similar manager on the continent to MoPo I'd say. High possession, high press...

 

Well...Marseille have a manager who fits the description.

But yeah, I'd be delighted with Jemez as manager. Probably the kind of guy Cortese would have gone for.

 

Because if the board say they may sell Lallana and Shaw, Pochettino will see this as a major backwards step (which it is). He wants to keep improving so why would he stay at a club that sells its best players?

 

I thought he was a good manager, but was still learning about the EPL. Was happy for him to grow with Saints. We have every right to be peeved as we gave him a good opportunity in the Premier League, but he jumped ship after a season and a half. He gave us a very enjoyable season and progressed our players...three into the England squad...hopefully they will be better players for that, but a club isn't just a short term thing. Nigel gave us far more than that. If we continue to do well under a new manager, I may be prepared to remove needles from his wax image.

 

You may be right, but hasn't happened yet. The club may tread water for a while, but better that than money problems. He may have been offered all the money from sales...we won't know till we see what the new manager gets...but I think his mind was virtually made up when Nicola left. Nicola asked him to stay and he saw out the season, so credit for that.

 

We don't have money problems. If they're looking to sell, it's to make a nice profit, not to balance any books. Unfortunately, that's where Katharina's interest in the club ends. It's a business and she wants to make money out of it. She has no emotional investment in the sport as far as we know. It's high time she put the club up for sale because the current regime is not going to make it any more valuable than it is right now.

 

That's the problem with having nobody around with any kind of football business knowledge. I don't know how they can think things will improve without significant investment - unless she's planning on asset stripping before she sells.

 

That's not remotely the case.

 

She doesn't, her mates Kruger and Hofstetter don't, and Reed isn't a business guy.

Don't run before you can walk. The Leihberrs have put a lot of money into us...the same stadium but a top class training facility about to open and a good side of talented players. We are in the EPL where the money is. Wanting us to be sustainable isn't the same as wanting to do it on the cheap or intending to asset strip. Katharina with her presence at games and being photographed with fans didn't look like someone uninterested in the club. I'd be more worried if she did everything from Switzerland. She may yet change her mind...it may not fit in with her life or it may be more trouble than it is worth...but I don't feel that is her immediate intention. Even then I don't feel she will asset strip...Saints is valuable as a viable business and she will no doubt remember her father's affection for us.

Most teams in the EPL will never win the title or even get close...I think we are in a second group that has a chance of Europe. There is nothing wrong with being financially viable, playing good football and never being in contention for relegation. I'd settle for that...as long as we remain in the EPL, we have a chance of greater things, but that may be next season or in 5-10 years. Have to be in it to win it...don't want to crash and burn.

 

It is a bit. Les Reed and Gareth Rogers come closest to the description, but Reed isn't exactly qualified in business and I know nothing about Rogers. For the people on the business side, the football knowledge seems pretty limited. Krueger and Hofstetter know very little about the game, and they're here to assist Katharina - another person who knows nothing about football - achieve her goals. We've got football knowledge and business knowledge on the board, but I wouldn't say there's any one person who has a lot of both. Sure, you can say that those who don't know football can consult those who do and we're all good, but we've got three people at the top (Liebherr, Krueger, Hofstetter) who have a business plan, and there is no invested emotional interest in football factored into it.

 

Les Reed has a fantastic CV...was amazed when I read it a couple of days ago.

 

I don't think Rogers has any football knowledge either. He worked in business until Cortese brought him in to be "financial officer", which isn't a very sporting role. He may have picked some experience up in the last two or three years I suppose, but it leaves Les Reed as the only one around with any real footballing knowledge.
