I am a Hamilton fan. I have been since he was in GP2.

However, he is not my son or my personal best friend. I do not own him or his personal life. I do not compete with him or anyone else at the top level of sport. I do not communicate with him on a daily basis checking out if his behaviour is acceptable to me according to whatever standards I wish to impose depending on what mood I happen to be in.

I am not one of those that uses the social media opportunities to object to the presence of his dad, demanding that he broke loose from his dad and then criticised Lewis Hamilton for doing exactly what they demanded.

A F1 driver busts his guts to get pole position and out comes the yellow flags. It does not matter if the reason for the flags is legitimate or not. Any one with any sense of competitiveness or genuinely trying their hardest to get pole would feel angry. Not at the person but the situation.

BamalamaFizzVa, Hans, Miggins – you seem to know very little about life. Have you ever ventured beyond the boundaries of your own front door?

Everyone feels angry at times, but to act the way he did is completely out of order for a "professional".

I've largely bit my tongue this weekend about Hamilton's behaviour, but f**k it, if some f**kwit wants to criticise me, i may as well live up to some criticism.

Hamilton is a f**king pathetic childish crybaby who should shut the f**k up and get on with his f**king job. if i cried at my job like he does at his, i'd be fired instantly, smarmy c*nts like that who have no self awareness or respect for the real world really get on my f**king case, you're getting paid a fortune to do something you love, how about you knuckle the f**k down, have some f**king fun and stop embarrassing yourself, your team, your friends and your family. What an ungrateful excuse of a human being.

    Rant over.

I've not read the whole thread; only the last few pages, plus some 'random sampling'. But below is one of the most comprehensively astute posts I've read in a long time.

I feel it justifies a complete reprint. Nice one, Astro…

While I don't exactly subscribe to Kyle's thinking above, as a fan I felt let down by Hamilton this weekend. He spent way too much time talking and not enough time getting on with it IMO.

He had a golden opportunity to show his maturity and be the man of the pair, and he threw it away. I understand his disappointment and frustrations, but 2nd keeps him in the hunt and he's coming up on a period that could play in to his hands.

    Ya can't win em all.

Grace, dignity, pride,professionalism.......are all things we expect from the sporting elite who live in a different world to the likes of you me. The interesting thing is that you and I have different perceptions off what the above are, and may even by hindered by our emotive loyalty (or blindness) to our chosen idol.

    Really? When was that?

I agree with with Sarge on this one, it pains me really because the person Lewis has done the most damage to this weekend is himself, and it makes me sad. Not angry like Han, who thinks it is a personal matter involving him where Lewis has personally done him wrong and now he is angry about it.

Having said all that, it's not the end of the world for Lewis, it's only that loss of 25 points at Aus that makes things as tight as they are. Not the end of the world for Han either so everything's OK. Han, most of the hissy fit you have had could be directed at you as well. Have some f**king fun and stop embarrassing yourself, your team, your friends and your family. What an ungrateful excuse of a human being.

Perhaps it was tempting fate when Johnny Herbert said how much he liked the new, more relaxed Lewis during their chat on Sky. Hopefully, a few people will speak to him quietly and sensibly, and help him get the perspective back. He shouldn't let Monaco 2014 affect him the way Monaco 2007 did.

I'm not sure if that was in reply to me or not, Smithers. But in response, I absolutely love Hamilton as a racer. To me he's everything a racer should be. But after following for so long, staying with him even through the barren years, having to put up with the relentless barrage of bile aimed at him, he pretty much goes and confirms what many have had against him. It's impossible to defend him after that. That's why I feel let down as a fan.

He needs to sort himself out. He's got a golden opportunity right now, he should be grabbing it with his right foot!

Likewise Mr Shotfirst. If you can't moan at Lewis for being whingy and cross without realising how whingy and cross it makes you look then you are suffering from an utter perspective failure and a spectacular lack of self awareness.

Difference is i'm not in a high profile position, with high profile backers who expect a certain public image from me. Hamilton has a duty to his team to put on a brave face, if he wished to bitch in private, then so be it, it's his call then, likewise i wouldn't act like this at work, i use this place to vent my frustration.

Sarge. Let me explain. This weekend Lewis has harmed himself by letting himself turn an annoyance into a psychological own-goal. This is saddening as this year we had come to expect more from him. However I really don't quite understand the righteous indignation of some forum members who are seemingly so offended by this that you would think he had done all of it to deliberately piss them off personally.

I'm not saying he's handled it well Han, as I've already said. But I genuinely believe he has mainly harmed himself in the process. Personally I don't really give a hoot about his corporate backers. When he drives well, which he has done pretty much all year, he's as exciting or more exciting than any other driver. If he were to throw that away by some form of psychological self-destruction it would be tragic for him and a sad day for the sport, if you love real racers. That is all.

Oh I hear ya chap. It was a massive own-goal that could have been flipped completely on it's head had he handled it right. But what he's achieved is upsetting his fans, likely upsetting his team who work their backsides off and given those who want to bash him more artillery than you can shake a stick. Best thing he could do is apologise to his team firstly....

Not at all mate, just reiterating that we all have different beliefs dictated by different environments which allow us to form views based on how we perceive different scenarios. Ironically those views (opinions) will probably change (or reason) over time when our passion (which hinders clarity) subsides to normality with common sense. We're all blind fools!
