Think we are all agreed we dont like this uncertainty but this could go on a while yet. I would say lets look at the facts but there arent many. All we know is that Saints turned down an offer for a player and that Les Reed said we are looking at targets. MP sad he was planning for next season. Everything else is hearsay.

so they looked like they said farewell when they left the restaurant. how uncommon.

either that or some kind of contract. (bye adam, sign here please)

people on twitter never fail to meet my expectations.

Is this thread still moping on? I think it is obvious that before the end of the season the players were told to say nothing, Les made a statement and they tried to damp down the speculation which was getting intense.
We do not need to sell anyone but because it's difficult to turn down an insane offer, no statements regarding players definitely staying can be made. Pochettino is given assurances that there are no plans to sell but knows how football works. In that context he might well want to wait before signing a contract which is already agreed in principle.
Now, can anyone say why the lack of any movement on this is a bad sign?

The bad sign is that if MP was staying a statement could have been made immediately...the contract must have been on the table. This means MP is hedging his bets (have I mentioned this is pissing me off!). A possible change of manager is holding everything else up...both positive and negative. Let's hope that if we have to change manager, he is very strong, comes in and says no one is leaving.

No that's it he's off. Joe Allen knows this and has already started working as a waiter in a restaurant because he knows he'll lose his place to Adam :)

Or... they want to get the timing right of the announcement for whatever reason.

I understand the tension, but there seems to be an assumption that if Pochettino stays, the players will and vice versa. Actually the shortest contract involved is a year so there is no panic here. Well, of from the interested parties anyway;)

The right timing was end of season...there is no way that the board gain from this delay...only Mauricio gains.

I'm with you, he's starting to piss me off a little bit. The longer this goes on the less I care if he stays. If his heart isn't in it let him go and bring another decent manager in ASAP who can start the pre season preperation going. We can't have uncertainty for the next 3 months, it'll ruin the season. Pre-season has a massive impact.

Or.... Let the season end, leave the focus be on the World Cup boys (intention anyway), get into the World Cup, announce MP signing amongst the furora of Saints players doing well in the tournament, followed up with the announcement that everyone is staying and three top World Cup stars are coming too.... Just about takes us to pre-season :)

Like you, I've gone past dismay and am firmly in pissed off. We are not a little club (and even little clubs deserve respect)...if MP wants to go, pay us the 2 million due under his contract and go and look for a job properly, and let us get behind a new manager and enjoy preseason (with lots of positive rumours about transfers in). Saints are not a back up plan, we are the real deal.

A thought. Is this situation actually that unusual for a manager?

Most managers seem to get sacked before the question of contract renewal comes up but I think Wenger for one often gets into the last few months of his contract before he renews...

If I were MP I wouldnt extend until I'd seen the new Board back up their statements with cash or a firm sod off to any offers.

Wenger is an exceptional case and I also think that Arsenal fans aren't worried half their team will leave. If Mauricio was definitely seeing out his contract, the board would have made an announcement to that effect to stop the rumours.
