Is there a WEC thread? Nissan have announced they're competing in LMP1 next year: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/114086 The series is really taking off in a big way. That's two big car-makers joining in two years, and the series is only in its third season. It's such a shame Peugeot pulled out, five big names in the LMP1 category would be perfect in my opinion. The 6 hours of Silverstone was thrilling for the first half, but kind of fizzled out in the second because there were only three LMP1 cars remaining. I'm hoping Nissan poach at least one big name driver from F1, it would great to see Hulkenberg move given he's wasted in F1's midfield and is being persecuted by the regulators for his height.

2004 was statistically from a points position, but the sheer speed of the 88 McLaren's is what is being compared to the 2014 Mercedes. McLaren also won 15/16 races and were only denied a clean sweep in Italy, and that was 2 laps from the end when Senna tripped over a backmarker. Back in 88 there were a lot more retirements so the cars didn't always finish, but they were up to 3.5 secs a lap quicker than the others. The exaggerations that Mercedes are 2s a lap quicker that some on here keep harping on about is misleading as that only happened once, and very briefly at the end of Bahrain when they were ahead of a Force India. Aside from that, they are about 0.5 - 0.75s quicker generally but as both are finishing it looks more dominant than it really is when compared to 1988/2002/2004 etc

Just checked, Vettel only has 23 fastest laps. Would have thought it was more than that considering the cars he's had and his well known bombing it round on penultimate laps
