Seen this today, what on earth? Is it meant to be amusing or something, because it's just an awful piece? please log in to view this image DTLW
I agree...it is unbelievable to write in such an unpleasant manner about a basically decent side...we haven't cheated anyone, failed to pay taxes, have crooks for owners, or worked outside financial rules. Something is going on...though it could just be a case of it being easier to be 'funny' when being nasty than when being nice.
I've had a reply from a Mirror Editor who saw me post about this and now he says why is there an issue with being anti-Southampton? He said it was a piece written to be amusing to the reader and provide insight in the column. Right, then.
I think we can deduce from this that the Daily Mirror is ****, and their sports journalists mostly ****ers.
Their betting column is actually seriously poor...tbf they are unpleasant about a lot of clubs and individuals. However, the more serious thing from a betting point of view is that they are so often wrong...I don't mean in an average sort of way that would happen if you use a pin, but in their bet of the day virtually 100% wrong.
This is the reply of the Mirror Editor to me: https://twitter.com/benjamin_curtis/status/470564497166700544 Criticising the entire industry, apparently.
I like how he said to DTLW that it's odd DTLW wants criticise an industry(the press) he wants to work in. That actually made me laugh, far more then the **** they call tongue in cheek.
About as amusing as Vladimir Putin's to-do list. Nice of them to throw in an insult to Adele too. Who wrote the piece DTLW? John Shaw?
I've just re-read the mirror piece, and realised there are jokes in there. Ha-****ing-ha. Charlie Brooker needn't start fearing for his job just yet I don't think.
Let's not too emotional about this. It seems. Seems to me it was a piece from their betting section and was obviously tongue-in-cheek. " ....top premier league sides -and Arsenal". I am guessing a Spurs fan then. "Saints not a selling club" except Walcott Bale Oxo. Yeah it's a tongue in cheek fail.
Have to admit I do read this column as it can be funny...so perhaps I need a thicker skin. I especially look for the bet of the day as it is so wrong as to be funny...I assume this chap has the common sense not to bet himself. Perhaps we should be pleased he fancies us for relegation fodder.
that kind of thing works better when you have an exaggerated clown character to credit the article to. like joey barton.
I can't remember why, but I had cause to send an e-mail to a journalist. He didn't like being questioned either...my e-mail was reasoned and not aggressive in any shape or form, yet he reacted like I dissed his dead mother. He seemed to feel that as a journalist he could believe and write anything (okay, so far), but was then beyond criticism.
