SUNDERLAND boss Gus Poyet wants total control over transfers at the Stadium of Light before committing his future to the club. The crunch comes this week when Poyet, who masterminded the Black Cats' escape from relegation, meets owner Ellis Short and chief executive Margaret Byrne. At the moment the final say on transfers lies with sporting director Lee Congerton who arrived in March. Both Short and Byrne want to work out a compromise which would keep Poyet on Wearside but believe in the sporting director - head coach system which is favoured on the continent. That would mean Poyet agreeing to work closely with Congerton which could prove a sticking point in negotiations. Poyet insists that he doesn't want signings forced on him and wants to supervise his own scouting network. At the same time although the Sunderland hierarchy realise the job the Uruguayan did in maintaining the club's Premier League status and know he is popular with the fans they are reluctant to change their transfer strategy. One thing that won't be affected by Poyet staying or going is striker Connor Wickham's future. He provided the goals in Sunderland's nervy end to the season and will be rewarded with a new contract. With just 12 months of his current deal to go Sunderland are eager to agree a new deal after the England Under 21 forward finally came good to justify his £8 million move from Ipswich Town. http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...t-demands-control-over-Sunderland-s-transfers
Is this a genuine link from the talks today or just guess work? I think Gus needs control of the first team squad and that Congerton needs to take control of turning the Academy into a profitable section of the club and only act as a 'transfer secretary' to the first team squad.
Well we've been down this route before with PDC & that Di Fanny arsehole, which let's face it was a complete failure. Let's just hope Gus gets the ****s telt & keeps his eyes off Maggie's tits.
Then again it could be an exclusive because the Express have concocted it. Congerton was at Chelsea during Poyet's time so he could have been brought in at Gus's request.
Guess work imo Nee one will ever know our scetch Unknown quantity just how i like it Edit : is that the f**king time? And why am on the balcony in the rain?
I can't sleep either and up at 7am to go to the Cricket at Durham, 5% of me wants it to be pissing down all day so I can have a lie in (if I ever get to sleep).
I've still got this trapped nerve. I was bed at 11 up at 4 managed 1 hour on couch then sitting all day I'm pig sick I even struggle to type. I can't be bothered to type my arm is in so much pain.
Sympathy on that one Vince, spent three weeks getting over mine until it popped back. Still very wary of it even after about 15 years.
Short has seen the likes of Bruce & MON throw away millions and millions. He won't allow Poyet total control and I don't believe he should ........ if Poyet wants total control then he may as well shove off. Does he really believe he'd get total control at Spurs with Levy involved or at West Ham with the Chuckle Brothers? The whole club should work as a team and Shrt needs to get them telt!
Just starting the morning off with a bit of misogynism.... But what the **** would a female solicitor know about the continental style of coaching so favoured on the continent...? More lazy journalism... Or me just waking up on the wrong side of the bed!
Disagree Smug. I can't imagine Alex Ferguson being told who he could or couldn't buy. He'd have walked. Owners of football clubs should keep out of that side of things. Make a decision on who you want as manager, then stand aside and let them manage. Tell them how much is in the kitty and let them get on with it.
I think 'Total control' is just a daft saying that the press use when it comes to clubs that use DoF. Ultimately Short has last say. He sets the transfer and wage budget. No manager/head coach on this planet has total control of transfers unless of course they're bot manager and owner/chairman
prolapsed disc eight years ago ,still no feeling down the inside of my leg and still got the scalding sensation when the skin is touched, good luck
Don't see how it can't work with congerton and Poyet still has final say on players. Poyet tells Congertan he wants a right back, congertan goes away and looks at a hand full of targets, presents his findings to Poyet who green lights a bid....
