Yes, lets tell sky to **** off. Last time we done that it turned out brilliant. Sentanta goes bust and then sky picks up the contract for cheaper than its worth. Aye lets tell sky to **** off again, best idea 2k14.
e*>*Sport*>*Football Go Dutch: what SPL could earn in TV deal Published on 11 July 2012 Chris Tait AN official from Eredivisie Live, the television channel responsible for the broadcasting rights of Dutch top-flight football, believes the television deal which was struck between the Scottish Premier League and Sky represents a paltry agreement. The contract is reportedly worth around £15m per season to the Premier League but Neil Doncaster, the SPL's chief executive, and his counterpart at the Scottish Football Association, Stewart Regan, have expressed concerns that the deal could now be torn up, or at least allowed to persist on vastly reduced terms, depending on which league Rangers newco play in next season. It is a situation of which Dutch football has some experience. When a bumper three-year contract with new channel Talpa came to an end the league were left with no irresistible bids from other companies. Clubs resolved to take control over their own broadcasting rights, and the subscription-only channel Eredivisie Live was formed. The channel – which broadcasts matches from throughout the leagues in Dutch football, as well as national cup competitions and the German Cup – now commands almost 600,000 subscriptions, with prices reaching as high as £18. With Sky subscriptions continuing to rise, the Sky Sports package is £21 on top of the basic subscription fee. Maarten van Rooijen, who has been on board at Eredivisie Live since its embryonic stage and now heads communications, has questioned if the SPL have undersold their product. "[The Sky deal] seems to be quite small," said Van Rooijen. "I would have assumed there would have been other competitions, other leagues, in the TV deal as well. I am not sure of how the market is in Scotland, but in Holland the subscription is between £15 and £18 – it depends on the provider and they make their own pricing – but we have deals with each provider. The consumer price varies between £15 and £18, so that is quite low when compared to the UK, I think." "In 2005 we sold the rights for the highlights to Talpa, which was the new channel from media entrepreneur John de Mol, so he had a lot of strategic money available to buy the rights because he wanted to make a big interest with his TV channel. We sold the highlights for £30m and the live rights for £35m, so a total of £65m. That was the highest amount in history for those clubs."
No it doesn't. The dutch league has been one of the most competitive leagues in the last decade. They have more than 2 teams challenging for the title every year and there is an extra 6 teams to bring in added revenue. They also have a much higher standard of football to watch. You're deluded if you think that Scottish football could market itself. It's thinking like that that put us into bed with an unstable company to begin with.
Sentanta went bust. Explain to me how that is nothing to do with Scottish football? Explain to me why Aberdeen, Celtic and Rangers all opposed Sentanta taking over the TV rights in the first place.
They paid over the odds for the rights to the premiership and didn't get the required amount of subscribers to sustain it. They had been covering Scottish football for years and everything was going well for them.
They overpaid for **** epl games They opposed sentanta.because they thought they could do it better themselves
I don't even know why I am arguing with you spackers. Peace out bitches. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...s-over-disastrous-Setanta-TV-rights-deal.html
I remember my version, kind of supported in your link "And, despite yesterday's defeat, he made it clear the Old Firm would continue to work on alternative TV proposals ahead of the 2012 option to split from the new deal."
Fans don't pay to watch the premiership live either doesn't stop them getting massive tv audiences. Man city couldn't even sell out their title decider.
How much is the tv deal worth? Is it 80 mil over 5 years? 16mil a year According to http://kerrydalestreet.co.uk/topic/8769590/1/ the average SPL viewing figure for games not including Celtic was 52000 for season 2012/13 With Celtic its 73500 Its roughly 30 games a season so 1560000 viewers not including Celtic games per season What do you think is a viable solution in your amateur opinions or stumbling blocks if the figures above are reliable?
that's a total of 1560000 viewers over a season... it won't be the total number of subscribers. It's not a simple as some are suggesting... You simply won't get people buying into a product that offered only Scottish football as its only option. In my opinion, a high percentage of those viewers who watch Scottish football do so as they also get epl, European leagues and champions league... So, to ask them to buy sky, bt and spfl tv would be a losing option for Scottish football only.
Global brand... It's simple to understand why the epl generates so much cash... It's also simple to understand why spfl wouldn't under its own steam. Scottish football ****ed itself with sentanta...it's too late, based on spfl as a product, to get a viable or better solution... Pretty sure the millionaire businessmen who run the clubs know that...hence why the jumped at the deal sky offered.
