Was here. Stopped now. Just painted ceiling in dining room; walls next, though I think the wife wants to do that.

Has it ever occurred to Americans that what the Founding Fathers wrote might have been a bit wrong and out of date?

It was right at the time, because the law wasn't going to arrive and deal with problems. You had to dispense your own law and justice. We gave up the right to carry arms because the law was there to protect us. This also meant that as a whole we are pretty law abiding. I suppose America is so big that you might want some protection if you are isolated, but that hardly supplies in the cities. America does tend to regard the Constitution as a religion...it was after all put in place to protect the individual from any attempt to reinstate a monarchy or equivalent. So something initially essential has now become an unsolvable problem...as some Americans seem to regard their fellow citizens and the government as their enemies. Survivalists believe that everyone will become their enemies, instead of thinking that in a real crisis it might actually be better to work together.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbv5Vpa-B-0

On the day of the killing, he posted a Youtube clip explaining his reasons. Some may consider this distastefully voyeuristic but, if you wish, watch the video and notice how his attitude sinisterly darkens to the very edge of homicidal desire as the video progresses. I found it particularly fascinating when I compare it to interviews with genocidaires and African child soldiers from my United Nations' career, and see more evidence of the fine line we walk between 'moderate law-abiding citizen' and 'psychotic killer'.:

That's why they have amendments to the constitution.

Honestly though, I personally have no problems with responsible gun ownership.

It's far too late to amend it, sadly. There's absolutely no reason people need guns.

Nope, not a chance. Most of them still haven't realised the bible is out of date yet either...

in the UK, possibly (apart from guns being a potentially useful tool for pest control)

in the americas I believe humans are not on top of the food chain.

Yep pretty much that. And each gun as soon as it's produced should be given a registration number which is uploaded to a national database (similar to cars) allowing owners to be tracked. There should also be compulsory annual (or maybe bi-annual) psychoanalysis tests for gun owners. Consider it an MOT for gun ownership.

There's absolutely no reason why people need bows either, but they're quite fun and plenty of people own them.

Btw, did you know Laura Robson is an NFL fan? Carolina Panthers it seems.

Well, F1 just got interesting. Nico Rosberg has got pole position for tomorrow's grand prix after he made a mistake at the end of the session and caused a yellow flag, meaning no one else could improve their lap times. People now saying he did it deliberately, definitely a big story to follow overnight...

Stirs up memories of a Mr M. Schumacher back in 2006...

Well okay, maybe if you live in a cabin in the woods and need to shotgun a bear in the face from time to time.

Bears don't harm anyone. They're cuddly and eat vegetation and occasionally insects. Okay in Alaska you might encounter nasty bears, but the black bears you find elsewhere do not warrant guns.

You're more likely to be struck by lightning. Genuinely.

If a cougar does fancy killing you though, you won't stop it with a gun. You won't even know it's there.

I went to talk from a guy who sailed around the top of Canada (or something) in a tiny boat. Things eat you up there. Apparently if you shoot a polar bear you have to pay a lot of money for a "license".
