I'm confused, but not surprised, at how the BBC have ended tonight's show. For those that haven't watched it, the category chosen was Literary Greats and the question was novels of Joseph Conrad. The couple in the final didn't have a clue but guessed at 3 random made-up titles. The last answer they gave was 'Black Narcissus'. Now, here's the interesting bit, Conrad actually wrote (well over a hundred years ago) a novel called "The ****** (N-Word) of the Narcissus" which as we all should know has a very close - although not quite the same- meaning as Black Narcissus. Remember, this was an entirely random answer plucked out of the air that the couple gave and yet it was very close to an actual title of a Conrad novel. However, the BBC chose not to even mention it. We all know why but I'm sure it could have done sensitively.
Made me laugh when the bloke said "I know Joseph Conran". Didn't pick up on that, very interesting. I was struggling other than Heart of Darkness.
Heart of Darkness is a brilliant book, did it for my A-Level English, also the source for one of my fave films of all time Apocalypse Now.
