In an article in my football writer He almost has me believing in the appointment, but then I think why not spread the net a little further? How much is speculation on decisions or genuinely having inside information from the club, who can say. Bah!
The opening gambit from MD's article. Didn't Adams also 'vow' to keep our status in the premier league alive, when he took over as caretaker manager, only to fail spectacularly? Don't worry, I'm not ante his appointment per se, it all depends on his ability to retain existing players and recruit a decent calibre of new blood. But all this "vowing" is getting tiresome.
Anyone know what the 2 undisclosed disciplinary issuers were (RVW, Fer)? I will be backing Adams all the way. Better choice than Malky and just as big an unknown as Lennon. If the Players rate him and back him, thats the important thing.
As someone's put elsewhere, Gutierrez's twitter outburst was probably one, and Bassong disappearing from the first team altogether may be related.
A better choice than Malky? Don't talk absolute rubbish. Just compare those cvs - now have a think how many millions are riding on this. As big an unknown as Lennon? That's that same Lennon who beat Barcelona and has some silverware to his name, right? The same Lennon who has managed to get a Celtic player into the England team. The same fella who got Hooper to the cusp of it, just 12 months ago. It's a fools appointment and the board deserve everything that's coming their way. The fact that I'll be singing my heart out on the opening day doesn't make this any less an awful decision. I don't think the players do rate him, which is just another of the many problems with this appointment. Nothing positive on twitter, which I think speaks volumes (although would love to be proved wrong). They are as uninspired as we all are, and they'll be off. My list of likely leavers just doubled.
Well lets hope he doesn't succeed then Gruffnuts. Then we can abuse him the same way Hughton was. Oh wait, thats already started. Adams has got my backing, until he shows he is incapable, whether that be the first game or the 41st. I remember Hughton being an astute piece of business. We really got the man most fans wanted. That didn't work out very well did it. What was on his CV? Similarly, Lamberts CV didn't help much at Villa. I just think people need to give the man a chance. You bring up Lennon beating Barcelona. Tell you what, lets appoint the Luton manager who fired up his Non-league team to beat a premier league team, he must be worth a punt. You can't judge a manager on one game or a select few. Yes he has done well at Celtic, but can he do it down here, we don't know. We beat Man Utd under Hughton, lets get him back! Oh, and we're all entitled to our opinions. That was mine, I don't care if people disagree with it, but don't discount it as rubbish coz its not in line with yours.
Fenland, its why I spend more time reading than posting on these sites. Generally I just keep my opinions to myself. But sometimes, they are worth putting forward. Especially when someone hasn't even been given the chance to prove himself. He needs as much support a he can get from all quarters, and if people aren't willing to give that from the start, it makes his job so much harder. Why crucify him before pre-season has even started?
We're not attacking Adams, who is an unknown quantity and who could turn out to be great, average or awful. We are attacking the Board, either for incompetence or for putting two fingers up to the fans to make sure they know who calls the shots here.
I think this sums it up for me. Most people are more angry at the board for making an appointment that on the surface makes very little sense, particularly in comparison to the other candidates. Most people will be behind Adams when the season starts, but he won't have as much credit in the bank as Malky or Zola would have.
Ok I appreciate that, and fully understand. I too was hoping for someone else, but the board have appointed who they thought was best for the position. Whether those be for footballing reasons, or Money reasons we will not know. I just want us to do well. Win the league, and stick two fingers up ay everyone who ever doubted us.!
Good piece by Mick Dennis, I hadn't actually realised we were still waiting on two appointments, a director of recruitment as well as a technical director. Going to be quite an interesting set-up! So that presumably means the coaching team is now likely to be Adams, supported by Foley and Mark Robson. I stress coaching team, as Adams is sounding more like first team coach than manager in this new set-up. I'm actually feeling a little better about that. Adams apparently can run a good training session, and we've some evidence that he can make effective changes mid-match. That may be enough if we've got someone else bringing in the players to fit Adams' system. Still hope these next two appointments are significant though. If we've promoted Ewan Chester (who whilst he has a good reputation, did foul up last summer as Dennis points out) and Ricky Martin, I will not be impressed. Some influence from beyond East Anglia would be nice. Hopefully this is why McNally was behind Adams' appointment, as he knows what the final picture will look like!
I'm sure I've already heard Chester referred to as our Director of Recruitment by McNally, not that he couldn't be replaced but I'd imagine he's already developed a list of targets and changing now would be a poor move as we need to be starting to organise for next season.
