MP Geraint Davies states that the new proposed Lagoon should not go ahead as it will be an eyesore and serve no purpose, What are your views, I like the idea of a lagoon myself but i dont know what benefits or cons to really agree or disagree with Geraint Davies...
Sounds like a good idea to me. Having said that I'm not qualified enough to give a sound opinion....but then, I've always found Geraint Davies to be a total twat so on that basis.... yes to the lagoon.
Don't know enough about what is proposed either way. Sorry. But I suspect the public won't have a say in it.
The lagoon is to provide tidal energy, how much, I don't know, but hey, I like the idea myself. As long as its cost effective, why not. I also think it looks pretty good, and am looking forward to riding my bike around it, so its a yes from me.
Well if that's the plan it should go ahead should it be effective in generating sufficient energy. This won't happen though because the energy companies have got the governments by the balls.
Win, win, win, win, win project. Welsh designed Hundreds of jobs in construction almost all local (I believe all costs met from private money and green energy payments when generating) When finish - Generate 5% of Welsh energy needs Energy jobs created New clean, commercial, oyster beds Leisure opportunities walking, cycling. fishing, boating Tourist area and cafes If this doesn't go ahead it shouts from the rooftops Swansea wants to die.
I can chip in a bit of hard core rubble from my jobs and I won't charge them as much as they charge me for tipping it so win win
Eye sore for whom and how ? . The area is desperate for new innovation and jobs and I wonder he was/is as vociferous with all the Wind turbines being built around us ,which ever hill mountain and from any angle they're everywhere .These are constructed with very little or non local labour and have contributed very little in local employment .Here we have an opportunity to create a lasting legacy with future opportunities and some half wit starts shouting the odds .
Im a fisherman so i welcome any facility to aid my sport. I cant see any problem with it myself but what do i know...
It's great for the jobs aspect, and also for the tourism it will bring. It will be a real attraction and will finally bring Swansea to the forefront of innovation for the first time in my life (for this reason I won't be holding my breath that it actually gets built!). The power generation is a side issue to me. I'm all for renewable energy and I hope to see numerous tidal lagoons up and down the UK in the next decade, but the power will just be fed into the grid and won't necessarily power our area. I have this far-fetched dream of coastal cities supporting themselves off wind/tidal power, and inland cities off wind/solar/biothermal power, and cities in the mountains self-sufficient off wind/hydro-electric power... But alas, we're all connected to the same plug extension, wherever we are. It'd be great to know that the tidal lagoon power was directly being fed into Swansea homes, making us a greener city. But for jobs and tourism alone, it's a thumbs up from me!
If they really wanted to make the most of the extra land they could engineer it so it had at least 2 levels which could be used to ease traffic congestion along the sea front. They could also bring back something the people of Swansea have talked about for decades, the mumbles train/tram system. Plus other practical and attractive designs to make it a great thing for us locals and another good tourist draw. And no tolls on it !
I recently watched a show claiming that the melting of the polar ice caps is pretty much confirmed and that they expect a 3m sea level rise in the not-too-distant future (obviously there will be counter-arguments to what the show claimed). I wonder what contingencies the Tidal Lagoon project have put in place for this potential eventuality.
I thought is wasn't planned to go along the sea front, I was not sure but i think its a good idea all the same....
Ok i obviously have`nt looked into it as anything our council plans for our city is usually pie in the sky or as that google earth plan looks, a mini cheapest version of what could be !
Fishing - a sport? I wonder if the fish go along with that description. It's as much a sport as masturbation.
