What is wrong with these players? Apart from maybe Caulker I think they are real quality, and even Caulker has decent potential. Just because they are not super famous stars of world football does not mean they are not what we need. Just because they come from Southampton, Swansea or Cardiff does not mean they are not CL quality. I think we are taking a sensible, detailed and tactical approach to transfers. We dont need materialistic signings like Real Madrid.
Signing players with good experience at a high level reduces the risk of failures. Look at Downing, Carroll, Adam etc - all of which came from smaller clubs and no experience of performing on big stages. All failures. Now look at the likes of Sturridge, Coutinho, Suarez, Sakho - young but played at big clubs, Champions League etc etc. I'm not saying that it's as scientific at that - football is not simple. But it's about reducing that risk as much as possible. I want players who will improve us - Caulker and Lovren are not better than Skrtel, Lallana is not better than Sterling or Coutinho.
We need players who can take us from 2nd to 1st, and perform in Europe. The players mentioned above would have been good to take us from 7th to 4th,.
I'm of the same opinion. I'd rather we improve a couple of positions a year rather than constantly swap around dozens of squad level players hoping one of them works out. We kept buying squad players in Rafa's era and it didn't work. Buy for the first team not the bench- even if it means we sign 2 players instead of 6.
I dont think Rodgers wants any one to replace Coutinho and Sterling. I expect Lallana would play in midfield. Sakho has not proved himself yet.
With Sakho, the quality is there. He needs a stable partnership, in fact... the team needs a stable CB pairing. How many times did we have to change this season? Skrtel was the only defender who never really got injured and played most of the games.
If we sign Lallana to be a holding midefielder I will... well... I'll be peeved... probably won't do anything drastic. I don't think Lallana will take Henderson's place, or Gerrard's. He'd be useful rotation. If we get Lallana and no defensive midfielder (when it's someone defensive we need) I will question Rodger's sanity.
Have to say that I agree in principal. However, given that I was very vocal about us not signing anyone in January, foaming at the mouth and shouting that the end was nigh, I've learnt my lesson and am prepared to put my faith in the people who damn near got us the title despite the lack of investment. So whoever we sign will get my approval.....we can analyse once they have a chance to show, not before.
I ALSO AGREE... lallana and lovern? who the f knows when they are asked to play twice a week or more likely coming off bench etc what they will be like.. sorry southampton but playing one a week is one thing.. thats all lfc were doing according to all our wums. In short is southampton want to retain and quote silly fees fine. there are many many better players than those two out there.
Lot of talk of vorm being signed as cover for migs. Not a bad signing meaning Jones will be on his way. I wonder if there has been much interest in reina might be a bit much with all 3 if he doesn't move on
let me google that.... sigh...... anyway.... vorm... i'm not pushed, its good, its fine, i'm not dancing in the streets. back up keeper done then?
I think the likes of Lallana, Lovren, Caulker and Vorm would help boost the squad depth - they would be good players to have on the bench. But the cost of Lallana and Lovren is looking to be £30-40m - that's far too much for merely squad players. In addition, we need to improve the first XI. It sounds harsh but our first team weren't good enough to win the league last season. So we need to look at improving it. So, in summary - Lovren, Lallana etc at GOOD prices would give us much needed squad depth, and they can help us MAINTAIN... But I do hope we have some aces up the sleeve who can IMPROVE and take us from 2nd to 1st.
How do you know that? Are you suggesting we played our strongest eleven in all thirty-eight games and suspensions such as Hendo's coincidentally landed when he was off form? Yes, I'm being a picky batard too
Hardly anyone plays their best XI for 38 games straight - City had their best striker out for large parts. I know it's an unfair comparison between Liverpool and City but at the end of the day, that's what we're up against. It simply wasn't good enough and we need to improve. Now we're linked with Remy and we've apparently held talks with him. Good back up striker to have.
