    Exactly. This is the problem with all potential transfers. There are three key things in a transfer value:

    1. What the current market is doing for similar players
    2. What the buying club want to pay
    3. The 'value' of the player to the selling club.

    Joe's first point is correct in my view. 20m for a player who has looked very good for one PL season is a little bit of a gamble. 30m for a player who has been with us for all those years, is our captain, our leader, Mr Southampton, the most creative talent we have and many other attributes, may not be enough.

    2+2 does not often =4 in the world of transfers.

    Has TheVMan ever been wrong? Seems weird that some one would know 100% that Shaw, Lallana and Lovren are going. There are too many things that can change.

    He has got a lot of things right, but also has got his fair share of things wrong too, as you said, most likely things change very quickly. He got the Wanyama and Osvaldo signings spot on, and said what time they'll be unveiled etc. I doubt he does know information on all 3 players mentioned.

    I suspect that the press will soon start the "Saints rebuff Liverpool offer" line and the circus will move on to Chelsea or United for Lallana.
    Do you remember the Sunday Sport? They had a famous headline, "B52 bomber found in moon!"
    The next edition had the headline "B52 bomber on moon disappears!"
    Can't help seeing an analogy there, somehow. Still, I dare say they increased their circulation.
