Good Morning Everyone, Leeds' Lewis Cook played his part as England were crowned U17 European Champions last night. The youngsters kept their nerves thumping Holland 4-1 on penalties. Cook started the game, but was replaced in the second half. Brian McDermott and Leeds United’s players are to meet with Massimo Cellino on June 2 after the club’s owner reversed a previous instruction ordering them back to Elland Road next week. What are the positions on the pitch that need to be addressed? If you were given 6m to invest in three players who would it be, and why? 20 years ago, Thorp Arch was seen as one of the finest 'state of the art' football complexes. Today, having not been revamped at all during the interim, perhaps its time to build a new one somewhere else. Thoughts?
Morning all - just checking in, still hoping for some positive news one day soon, I am getting fed up with the constant we have no money we are broke headlines. I just hope Cellino can turn it around without moving out of TA and expecting the players to train on some sub standard sports track. What next, we can't afford the rent at ER so move us out and rent a neighbours stadium for our home games??
Morning Ristac, I think we are in the midst of a rebuilding project. I think we'll have to take at least a footstep forward until we can take three footsteps forward. I'm feeling quite positive
I feel more positive with Cellino at the helm rather than Bates or GFH however I am starting to realise he talks the talk, let's see what we are all feeling when the first ball is kicked at the start of next season The loan on ticket sales has finished if previous reports are to be believed, with the out of contract players released, the closing of TA for now and the mass redundancies dished out can we really still be losing money?
Morning Elland, morning all. We are moving forward and in Cellino, we really do have someone that can build for the long term. Quite rightly, he won't spend megabucks this season on new players. We have a few coming through who will eithr feature regularly or be loaned out to get game time as part of their development. As to who we should buy, not a clue. What we need are: A new goalkeeper unless Kenny's staying and Cairns is his heir-apparent A replacement for Brown as a genuine DM. A pacy left or right wing to add width Competition for Smith up front unless we're going to retain Hunt, Morrison or anyone else who was bought to play up front 4 newbies for this T/W should be enough to see us move forward. Cellino/BMD can then take a view come the January TW on whether or not we're close enough this season to make top 6. If we are, that will be good enough. We can then either go up via the playoffs, which would then require some significant investment for us to stay up, or push for autos in the 15/16 season.
I've said on numerous occasions that providing we can get the behind the scenes running correctly within the club, we shouldn't need massive outside investment, the club should be able to generate sufficient income to be competitive, unfortunately to get to that stage is going to take time. So like Ristac I feel more comfortable with MC in charge than either of our last 2 patrons, or our 2 other proposed bidders/interested parties, I just wish that he would get on with it quietly, but I guess that is the price we pay for having a volatile character, its not like it should come as a shock the way he conducts himself Morning by the way to one and all
Good morning from a wet Bardsey If you remember I suggested he tried to renegotiate TA by calling the owners bluff saying we would move elsewhere BATES is behind the ownership getting 15% interest on his investment AT LEAST its about time we sorted him out and it appears our man will do it It s no coincidence I feel that since the accountants have been brought in Haigh has been arrested in Dubai how did he suddenly get £1.3m to invest in the club ? For example I think this saga could run and run with Cellino the ring master! Now to players as you know full well I am a great believer if your good enough you old enough so with this in mind David Bentley by all accounts a great prospect get rid of Kenny cost about 400k Jamie Murphy watched him a couple of times playing on the left wing for the blades has fantastic pace to get behind defences tore Forest apart cost about 300k Guedetti young and knows where the net his would be an ideal striker cost about £1.5m Adam Smith was very impressed with this young man came to us on loan after I wrote to Grayson about him Warnock got rid but he has played well for Derby cost about 500k right wing back Dale Jennings I still think the boy is worth a punt and would be available for 300k Burke freebie from Brum always thought he was a very canny winger and scores his share of goals as well as making them Don't know about the 2 Rotherham players but will watch with interest on SundayI would also watch young Hitchcockliked the way he took his 3 goals recently So thats my provisional ;list
in the modern era, it won't be possible to do it quietly. With social networking, everything is out there within minutes.Guarantee well know exactly what is said to players on first day back whether Cellino wants us to or not. Its the price hell pay for buying a club with huge fan base
Morning all Wonder how Beeston Dave coped with another night in prison, surely if theres any story to be told about GFH/Bates he'll be ready to sing anytime now. Agree that we don't need THAT many players, and pretty much agree with Boggers except I'd be looking for two wingers rather than just the one
Morning all, Sorry if this has already been covered but do we know what exactly is happening with regards to the players coming back from their summer break early? Surely, surely, surely MC realising that we can't expect much of a season if our players are knackered a month earlier than normal? (so November instead of december)
A Dammed fair point on wingers. But I think the plan is to develop Stewart. If not and he's farmed out either on loan to get game time or loan to sell, then yes 2 wingers are fine. I know its not his position, but where are we going to fit Austin into the team this season? Murphy and Mowatt are coming along slowly. Mowatt needs to get fitter, but as I say, where does Austin fit into all of this?
I really do hope we get something out of Stewart, but don't have much confidence! As for Austin, I think he'll be rotated with whoever we get in as a holding/DM
Morning monkeys Suarez under the knife this morning after suffering knee ligament damage in Uraguay - good news for England if he misses the world cup. Apparently, out of the last £1M that Haigh loaned to Leeds, £500k of it was used to pay his own bonus
I agree with you to some extent there Eire, but how many of the 92 clubs chairman/shareholders do you hear regularly saying themselves to whatever media they can, there's not that many. That is what I am getting at. At the moment MC seems to have Risdale syndrome, he wants to get his face out there, so the media can eat up every word he says. MC can;t control what others say about the running of the club, but he can control himself, that is what I would prefer. If you think about it, he has already been caught out with his desire for media attention, with people on here already questioning the fact that he said he was going to do this and do that, but now he has backtracked on those decisions because A,B & C. Well if he hadnt told us in the first place, he also wouldnt have had to tell us he was backtracking. Imagine if something else within the club comes to light, that means in November he cant repurchase whatever asset he said he was going to purchase originally on day one of his regime, Mighty will be on here like a shot to tell us "he told us so" and we wouldnt want that now would we As much as we may all hate Bates, that was one thing he was good at, probably cos if he actually told us what he was doing to the club, he'd have been hung drawn and quartered Plus if MC is telling us everything, then what are all the rumour mill specialist going to post about, surely he needs to save something so they can make their "in the know " posts
Morning all, I think revamping the midfield is going to be the main concern, plus a new GK and another ST (two if McCormack goes). There's plenty of good players going for free at the moment if we act quickly, but with the club in the state it's in at the moment, I'm not sure if we will be acting quickly. As for signing 3 players for £6m, I'd bring in a quick striker to play alongside Smith, perhaps someone like Stevie May from St Johnstone, an experienced box-to-box midfielder who can keep possession, like a younger Barry Ferguson, and a quick, tricky winger who's not afraid to take a man on, because we're severely lacking in both pace and width. It's nice to dream anyway
Our signings will be dictated somewhat by what salaries players will demand. Its clear Cellino won't entertain the 15 to 20k type of players so that will likely mean young players or ones from lesser foreign leagues not used to big bucks
Morning everyone!!! Someone else was making the point that you can't build on the land Thorp Arch sits on, so the value should be minimal, surely!
