The prequels where a bit of a let down, but JJ seems to be taking the series back on track.

A new V-log was posted by him today, and it looks like SW is going back to its routes!!!

NO MORE ****TY CGI, BACK TO PUPPETS! Yes!

    It gets a bit addictive.
I collect all the figures and have a full sized Darth Vader mask.

    Same!

I've always had a particular liking for Slave I. Boba Fett is my fave character personally.

Never quite understood why so many people think Episode V is the best of the films. Probably my least favourite of the original trilogy. Slow and dull for long stretches and the ending is fairly poor. I would actually say Episode III is better IMHO - I thought they got that one fairly spot on, although it is still flawed like all 6 films they have produced. Episode IV is the best film for me. Looking forward to see what they do with the next trilogy - I just hope they cut a lot of the kiddie elements because ****e like Ja Ja Binks has spoiled some of the movies.

Here's a few reasons why it's (IMO) the best:

    1. It's the darkest film of the trilogy. The Rebellion gets owned at the Battle of Hoth, Luke faces his dark side, loses his hand, and unintentionally reconnects with his estranged father, Han gets frozen in carbonite, the Millenium Falcon is on the fritz, and even poor C-3PO gets blown up. Overall it is a bad time for the good guys, which makes for great drama.

    2. Darth Vader is a ****ing boss. Tarkin held “Vader's leash” in A New Hope and Emperor Palpatine takes full command in Return of the Jedi. But Vader is truly the central villain in Empire, and all his officers cower in fear. No whining or going on about how he doesn’t like sand.

    3. Best lightsaber duel in the original trilogy. Before the cool martial arts choreography of the prequels, this duel clearly illustrates that Luke wasn’t ready. And Vader manipulates him the entire time.

    4. Boba Fett. I don't even need to explain this one.

    5. Han and company are constantly on the run. Han Solo shows how big his cajones are since the hyperdrive on the Millenium Falcon fails. (Three times to be exact). The Empire relentlessly pursues them, but Han manages to improvise enough to outmaneuver and hide effectively…for a while. These scenes had the sharpest dialogue to boot.

    6. There’s never a dull moment. There are moments in Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Sith, and especially The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones where the pacing tends to drag. Wooden dialogue tends to creep in. Not so with Empire. The pacing is brisk and the dialogue cheese free. There’s never a time where you ask “Where the hell is the action?” This is primarily due to the direction of Irvin Kershner. Unlike George Lucas, who is more of a visionary and skilled with technical aspects, Kershner is more of an “actor’s director” who focuses more on character. He also allowed more room for improv, like Harrison Ford’s response to Leia’s “I love you” with “I know.”

    7. Lando has a moral quandary. Do you screw your friends over for the “greater good?” Apparently so, as Lando makes a deal with the Empire that he later regrets. Good guys and bad guys were clear cut up to this point, but Lando’s tough choice adds greater tension and conflict. He later redeems himself, of course.

    8. The biggest plot twist in sci-fi history. Only George Lucas, Mark Hamill, and a handful of the crew were aware of Luke’s true lineage. Even James Earl Jones thought Vader was lying. To this day it is still a powerful dramatic moment. And the proper quote is “No, I am your father,” not “Luke, I am your father.”

(BTW if you think I copied that from somewhere, you'd be right.)

Of course, it's all opinion. It doesn't matter which Star Wars film you think is best. As long as it isn't 1 or 2.

They have forgotten about all the Yoda training on Dagobah which is desperately slow and frankly the film does have lots of slow moments and much of it is disjointed. As a film in its own right I don't think it holds up to Ep III, IV or VI. But like you say, they are all good (except for I and II).

It is meant to be slow in places. It is a dark film.

But if you consider Empire to be slow, then all of the films are equally as slow.

In the case of Yoda/Dagobah, it helps (or since the prequels have I suppose ruined it, helped) create the mystery around this apparent great warrior that is meant to teach Luke. He is a much more compelling and intriguing character than in the prequels.

All in all, I find your lack of faith disturbing.
