So what's the crack then, what are you all driving these days? Are you an eco friend or not? Anything decent being made these days? I know Gonads drives a bmw 330d, nice. Anyone looking for something new, what?
I'm considering a Merc at the minute, been on BM's for a while, bar one Audi (which I just didn't bond with....), looking at the C330 AMG (not the full AMG I know, but it looks unreal and is close to 300bhp, in a diesel...) Problem I have, is when I drive owt non-BMW, I want a BMW, I always vowed not to be the kind that always buys the same thing, but I ****ing love the things. The new front end on the 4 series is stunning, and it's between another 330d coupe, and that mentioned Merc, prices are similar, but the interior on the Benz is another level.
Currently driving a BMW 330i Coupe, decent enough but no much bang for my buck in the Manchester gridlocks. I'm a bit of an 80's/90's rally car enthusiast so before I die I'd love to have a shot in a Lancia Delta S4, over any other car on the planet.
I had a C350 for a couple of months before I bought the BMW, it's my bosses 2nd car, the thing is ****ing rapid but there's nowhere to put the power down round here. Torque was unbelievable though, foot down at any point and it just screwed right into the ground and pulled like a raging bull.
Don't want to sound like a twat but I just wouldn't want a Beamer (though you're right, front of the 4series is bloody smart. My lass looked at a couple last year but the interior was naff. She ended up getting a Merc CLK. She does a ****load of miles every month, it's almost her office so she wanted summat she'd enjoy spending hours in. I only got the Merc coz she mentioned at the dealership I was looking. I wanted an Audi but he showed me the Merc and I signed the paperwork 10 minutes later. If I win a few quid I'd have the Jag F type, stunning looking car.
Yeah I test drove one the other day, it did have some unreal pull, it's about 40 horse more than the 330d, and the interior is unreal. There's just summat about BMW though mate, you'll back me up if you drive one, they really do make you feel that bit taller. I ****ing love the old shop window in traffic element. I've never had a BMW fail on me either, not once, and I'm on my 5th or 6th now, and what's more fun in an Asda car park in the snow to scare the missus? Nowt!
The interior on the new 3 & 4 series is very, very nice mate, they've lifted and shrunk the full i-drive from the 5 series, and it's much more like you'd expect. If you have M seating as well, they are as good,if not better, than any Recaro equivalent (as in Audi RS4 etc...) Terry, That ad is ****ing class, love owt like that me.
My uncle is bang into older cars, he's restoring a Mark 2 Escort as we speak, recently had a Lancia Delta, not s4 tho. Never got to drive it myself sadly, was when I was in Spain.
Being an adopted Scandie I have a Saab (had it 7 years now). 93 combi, 2.8 turbo and it shifts like a goodun for its size (tweaked to 275bhp). Given car prices over here, I won't be changing it any time soon. Would love a pick-up, especially for the winter - really like the Amarok - maybe next year. I persuaded my old man, somehow, to buy a Lancia - he was 'widowed' and in male menopause territory and I'd just passed my test. of course, he couldn't get me insured (cost), twat. But when he was visiting his bird in Preston I nicked the keys, broke in to the garage and took it for a spin. Phoosh, what a beast. He eventually copped out and bought a 5-series beamer. I've been out with a rally driver over here, in an Evo. I thought I could drive. Fcuk me - I almost barfed the g-force is so mental on take-off. Something you have to try, petrol-head or not.
All day I prefer my 330i over that c350 mate, there's more of a mechanical feel to the car. It will do as it's told for one, where Mercedes are obsessed with taking the 'driver' element out of the car and replacing it with pure comfort and laziness. Mercedes do interior styling better than most, but I always feel like I'm behind the wheel of a game or a simulator inside one. It's gonna be personal preference at the end of the day really, like I said I'd prefer a Delta S4 to any other car on the planet and the inside of that thing looks like a ****ing Mechano set!
That would be amazing, we did a 'rally day' over here, but it was a ****ing con, spent half the time sat in meetings and ****, then the cars were limited. ****ing robbed.
I love me pick up, currently have the Nissan Navara, it huge, but looking at the new Ford Ranger, even bigger... .
They've nailed the design on the new 4 series I think, I look at it and I just think it's ****ing beautiful from every angle, my hate with mine was the lack of definition where the bumper meets the wing, they've sussed that now with a simple groove that leads into the fogs. Totally agree on the Merc intrusion, even with everything off, it's not off, a beamer will let you do what the **** you want, and that's how it should be. They take the piss on the options tho, 36k starting price gets you **** all but the basics, whereas the old shape was 27k start, and you could have the lot for about 31k. The new ones are bigger of course, the new 2 coupe is close to the size of my current 3, just a bit too low on the roof for me. 255horse standar, but you can spend about £90 and get it to 280 plus.
Been in and driven a few mate, Mk 2's are the ultimate rally car of all time, love them. Love all the Escort rally cars, the Michelin Pilot Cozzy that Malcolm Wilson drove in the early 90's was amazing. Seen an S4 at a show last year, over 1000 bhp Group-B spec, owner told me if you put it on gravel and next to it on tarmac a Bugatti Veyron Supersport, the S4 would mince the Veyron...on ****ing gravel!
MY brother-in-law hooked me up with one of the main rally driving schools, up in Jyvaskala. I think it was Tommi Makinen. His graduate drivers take you out for a spin as 'co-pilot'. Better than any roller coaster I've been on. perfectly timed cornering and jumping ditches. Once you adjust to the fact this is the best driver you've ever been in a car with, you relax, smile and turn into an American 'whoop, whoop whooping and yahooing' through the circuit. awesome.
