Ba sold himself to the highest bidder under his terms, which just happened to be us.
We were fortunate to get him to agree that the sell on fee was as high as £7m.
If we hadn't agreed to his terms, he would have taken up one of his many other offers at the time.

When he went to Chelsea, we could not stop him going, but at least we had him for 18months and paid nothing but his wages and then received a fee at the end.

I don't think its a myth we sell our best players to the highest bidder. Its just we haven't had that many good players to sell! <laugh>

The likes of Tiote, Krul, Colo, HBA have all had minor interest. Reality is though they've never been considered worthy pursuing at a high cost. If Colo had been younger I suspect he may have persuaded a few. Krul is a funny one because I suspect they are lying in wait, just watching his development. They don't want to pay the big bucks for an unfinished article who could go either way. Tiote has been a model of inconsistency. HBA has never looked likely to fulfill his potential. There rest are not really any better than a lot of similar options out there.

Cabaye is the only truly top notcher who has come in along with his mucker Debuchy. Remy maybe too. Remy will leave this summer of course and I suspect Debuchy will too as he is good enough to generate hardened interest.

The rest have been a rabble of decent players who have over performed and under performed at various stages.

Basically I don't think our squad of players are anything special personally.

If you actually look at it, we don't actually back up this buy low, sell high moniker. We just don't really buy much at all.

Reports from his home island claim that Newcastle are currently in discussion with Ayoze Perez, a 20 year-old striker who currently plays for second tier side Tenerife.

Right-footed, Ayoze has scored 16 times in 33 games so far this season, earning rave reviews for his pace and close control while playing across the front line.

Without a goal in his last six outings since netting a first senior league hat trick, his latest game was a 0-1 loss last Saturday at home to a Cordoba side who included a certain Xisco - our last Spanish striking sensation.

With three games left, Tenerife are tenth but despite losing their last four games remain just three points off a promotion playoff spot.

Out of contract in 2015 and refusing offers to sign an extension that would improve his pitiful current wages, Perez has a release clause that makes him reportedly available this summer for as little as £1.6m.

Watched by a host of scouts including those from Porto, Seville, Valencia, Schalke 04, Manchester City, Arsenal and Everton, a mooted transfer to Swansea City in the last transfer window failed to materialise as the Swans prepared to jettison their manager Michael Laudrup.

Signing on fee was reported to be about £2m from memory. Signing off fee was reported to be about £2m from memory. He wasn't for free but then he seems to have gone through his career with him and his agent setting up every deal in order to line their pockets at every opportunity. He seems a nice guy but is in fact an utter mercenary in football terms and if I was Charnley I would only ever let him come back under our terms and they would be entirely in our favour. He won't come back, of course, but you hear a lot of fans talking as if it's a possibility so I thought I'd mention it.

Yep, spanish press saying contract has been agreed. This is definitely a good start if it doesn't fall apart. We want to see a pacey and skillfull young kid with good potential not some washed up has been like Darren Bent.

    Damn that pesky line.

To be fair, I think the club has to wait for the Secunda season to finish first, so let's not beat people up just yet.

That said, the World Cup, which we are supposed to be using as out gauge to tie up "most" deals is now around 3 weeks away.

Sorry, but it's just going to be the same again, isn't it? Contract for Shola.
