The Brazilian stopper could be a surprise summer transfer target for Arsene Wenger as the Gunners go in search of a replacement for Lukasz Fabianski

Champions League winning goalkeeper Julio Cesar could be set for a sensational return to the Premier League next season, following the news that Queens Park Rangers are planning to recall the Brazilian from his loan spell at Toronto FC.

And while Rangers remain in the hunt for an immediate return to the English top-flight, with a playoff final date against Derby County coming up this weekend, any failure to earn promotion could see the former Inter Milan man head across London to Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger is thought to be a long-time admirer of the Selecao star’s talents, with the Gunners previously linked with a move for Cesar during his first season at Loftus Road.

But with no deal materialising and the keeper desperate for more playing time ahead of a World Cup on home soil, Cesar opted for a move to Major League Soccer and Toronto FC this term.

The Canadian club have made a number of high-profile signings in recent months, including AS Roma man Michael Bradley and former Tottenham and England favourite Jermain Defoe.

However, it would now appear that Cesar’s time with Toronto is set to come to an end, with an official MLS Soccer website confirming the news that QPR will look to recall the Brazilian.

Even if QPR do make a return to the Premier League though, Cesar may not start many games for the club with manager Harry Redknapp likely to favour current number one Robert Green.

That decision could also open the door for an Arsenal move, with Wenger keen to recruit another goalkeeper following Lukasz Fabianski’s decision to quit the club.

The Pole was reportedly offered another 11th hour contract in a bid to keep him at the Emirates but with the likes of Celtic linked with a move for the Pole, it would appear he has opted for an alternative.

That could pave the way for Cesar to come to the club, where he would most likely provide cover and competition to current first-team starter Wojciech Szczesny.

So he can be sold with the minimum of fuss. Will be easier if he is in the country.

Maybe because Green's £50000 p/w contract is up and we're already paying 90% of Cesar's £100000 p/w. Might as well get value for our money going down the drain.

At least one more season, he signed a three or four year deal I think.
