It looks like McGregor, Harper, Jakupovic and Oxley will all still be with us next season. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull...arper-Eldin/story-21118360-detail/story.html?
So pleased that Bruce wants to keep the Yak. Apart from the horror against the Wendies he has performed well and could be McGs back up next season ahead of Harper whose reactions seemed to be slowing late in the season. Hope we can hang on to Matty but would not be surprised if he decides to move on to Forest or another Championship team to get the playing time. Sad to see RoKo go...great servant to the Club. I hope Dudge makes a full recovery. We certainly need a LB.
I'd have liked to see us sign a better keeper and drop a McGregor down to no.2. I don't really have much confidence in him. Shame we never got to give Koren a proper send off. What an excellent servant and peripheral figure he's been. Hope Fryatt stays, and I believe he will. As third choice he's plenty of opportunity at playing time with a packed schedule, and can anyone really see him turning down the opportunity to play premier league and European football for the club that just gave him 120 minutes in a major cup final - to opt instead to go play in the championship? Just doesn't happen.
So what do you reckon - in general terms so that all get game time and IF all are fit and available - Harper in for the Euro qualifiers and FA Cup - early rounds anyway? Jak in for Capital One Cup? (maybe replaced by one of the others if we get anywhere near the final) Mac for Premier League ?
Sounds to me like Harper's appearances have triggered an automatic renewal rather than we've chosen to keep him so - like happened with Faye - I would expect to see him.
With Oxley out on loan again and Harps as 3rd choice back-up? Makes sense. Jak wont want to be number 3 again and Oxley needs to be playing rather than twiddling his thumbs. The problem with that is, Mcgregor is prone to injury and suspension and do we want the Jak playing the 19 games Harper did?
Oxley is a homegrown player. He should be number 2. An extra slot in the Europa Leagues squad (did I really just say that?).
An extra slot for who - a youth team player? And I thought we established that he doesnt qualfiy cos he spent this whole season away on loan so it - ridiculously - doesnt count as unbroken service. Or was that a myth?
I'd expect that to be the case, though we could do with Oxley getting a Championship loan this time(presumably with the same recall option as last season) and I'm not too concerned with Jakupovic as No.2, I think he's decent enough.
He counts as trained at the club so long as he has spent a total of 3 years at our club between the ages of 15-21. I believe he has done so. No problemo. And extra slot for a first teamer as one of the other goalies could be left out.
Not according to the Yorkie Post... Not only will the Tigers need a squad capable of battling on two fronts, but complex UEFA rules could leave the Yorkshire club seriously handicapped in Europe. Clubs competing in the Europa League are required to submit 25 names to UEFA before the competition gets under way, eight of which must have been trained in England for three years or more. Of those eight, half must have been trained by the club in question for a minimum three consecutive years between the ages of 15 and 21. At present, Hull have no squad members who fit the second criteria with even fourth-choice goalkeeper Mark Oxley failing to qualify due to having spent last season on loan at Oldham. That means if the current squad competed in next season’s Europa League, Bruce would be restricted to just 21 players – four less than in the Premier League. http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/football/hull/hull-city-now-facing-european-handicap-1-6609096
They've got it wrong. They don't have to be consecutive, he just has to have spent a total of 3 seasons here. If he's still 21 (or under) he doesn't need registering at all. Edit: I've just checked his wiki, I can't remember him gong out on all those loans, but it looks like he hasn't managed a total of 3 season here. Edit 2: actually, I believe he has qualified as they were all short term loans and I think they don't count as time away as such.
But we havent got any first teamers who quallify, have we? I thought we only had 21 who we could actually include who met the criteria. So freeing up an extra space is immaterial.
If Oxley qualifies then that's 22 players we can take. Harper or Jak can be left out and another outfield player can take their place.
I am really pleased. If Harper stays fit I, see him as an ideal number 2 or even 3. He knows what he is here for and just seems to get on with it and the squad all appear to like him.
Am I missing something here? Youre allowed a squad of 25 but we cant even fill that with elligible players so leaving a keeper out makes no difference. Do correct me if Im wrong, I havent looked into it that much.
