Juventus, Milan, Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid. I doubt he wants to add Tottenham to his CV and I'm just being realistic as there was a time when we where a big club and in the future that time will come again, we can be a big club, but right now I don't believe Ancelotti would be interested.
I couldn't give a **** if Bergkamp played for Arsenal. He was an amazing player (one of the best I've ever seen) and if he can get Soldado scoring goals, then he's more than welcome. - Infact, FLA, you've inadvertently touched on a point I made with this. How do you think the players would feel is they knew Dennis Bergkamp was coming to work with them? I would have thought the players would be buzzing over working with someone like him. - Especially the youngsters! Also, rumour has it that Bergkamp is a Spurs fan! Jaap Stam is welcome too, as far as I'm concerned. Neither of them can be worse than Les Ferdinand!
De Boer? He's very good apparently. But he doesn't speak English to the press, in order to give himself more time to answer questions so his words can't be twisted.
Bloody good point. The Bergkamp is a Spurs fan rumours have been around forever, they came out when he signed for Arsenal. Some say they are false. We'll probably never know and i don't really care tbh. Wasn't Defoe a Gooner? Didn't do him any harm. And Redknapp i heard.
Hasn't be ruled himself out of the running? Or do you believe he's just saying that out of respect to Ajax until hes offered a move away.
I think that on three different occasions Levy has tried to hire the 'best of the rest' in the hope that they will turn out to be better than that. I don't really see what was wrong a priori with Santini, Ramos or AVB but they didn't turn out well. I still think hiring a younger manager is worth the risk because we can't afford one of the really proven ones, even if they wanted to join us. We need to hire the current equivalent of Wenger or Ferguson - when Arsenal and Man U hired them neither were proven world class managers, neither was Paisley at Liverpool or Nicholson for us back in the day. We just have to face the fact that we don't have as much money as five of our competitors so if we are to overtake them we need to employ a risky strategy, not try to compete on the same terms.
I dunno mate. But we all know what football is like. There's no loyalty. My personal opinion is that he might be keeping quiet since his last comments. I imagine that someone probably had a word in his ear and said "keep schtum if you want the spurs job. Daniel levy doesn't like people discussing his business."
Defoe's idol was Ian Wright. Gerrard was a boyhood Everton fan, as was Owen, none of this really matters when they become footballers.
We have gone from a "dream team" of Van Gaal and De Boer to fans hoping for Benitez but the reality is we are going to end up with Pochettino. So yes you're right to be realistic and look at up and coming managers like De Boer and we shouldn't be wasting our time trying to bring in top level managers if we aren't going to give them the funds to compete.
The other thing that goes against the big name managers that nobody has mentioned is that even if we could get them to come over here and do well with Spurs they'll probably be touting themselves about for the next big job that becomes available in 1 or 2 years time
I agree PS, which is why we need to go with someone who gives us the best possible change and can give us what we want. Attractive football Respect from the players due to the stature of the manager Winning mentality proven success. My first choice would be Benitez, but I just don't see it happening. Therefore FDB is the next one, as he simply ticks more boxes than Poch right now. FDB has dealt with losing players and having to replace them every season. Cove often comes on here and tells us how the eredivisie is going downhill because there just isn't the money there, so FDB must be doing a pretty good job getting Ajax back to winning ways, consecutively. Poch is still an unknown for me. Everything was set up before he went in. Adkins had done a decent job, and as I've said before, we were all praising Laudrup in his first season. 1 year later he's sacked. I don't mean to sound like I'm doubting Poch, as he's clearly got Southampton playing decent football. But we simply just don't know enough about how good he is yet. I'd be interested to see how good Southampton are under him next season if they lose the players who are rumoured to be transfer targets for other clubs.
When Poncho fails, we will need a saviour to come in and "sort us out", Queue Tony Pullis (edit Pulis).
If he fails, i think there will be more goings on at WHL than Pulis coming in to sort us out. - I think we'll be seeing riots from spurs fans outside asking for levy's head.
Call off the search for a new manager Ranieri has left Monaco and is available on a FREE .Come on Daniel you know it makes sense!!!
Judging by the logic that says we have no hope of signing Dutch players with Van Gaal at Man Utd, does that mean if we brought in Pulis that our first signings would be Bale and Ramsey?
