if theres a greater escape ,let us know ,i think it will be a hard act to follow imo it over shadows wba for sure
It`s certainly one for the history books and imo will be the one to use when other teams are in a similar position.
Apart from the lack of an obvious link between my comment and your question, why is there always someone wants to analyse everything to death? It's not an oxymoron at all, sunshine. What's the Premiership got to do with being "history"? I think if you actually look, you'll find that our escape was more "unlikely" than either WBA's or Fulham's. 7 points from safety with away games at City, Chelsea & Man U coming up?
People talk about Fulham as well, in 2008, but that wasn't on a par with Sunderland either. Derby were already down, 6 or 7 games from the end, so there were only 2 teams to get above ......... whereas we had 3. Fulham were never bottom whereas we were nearly always bottom. IIRC they were only 4 points from safety with 6 games to go. They finished 4th bottom and were only saved on goal difference, +3 better than Reading ......... we went from bottom to 5 points clear. Again, absolutely no comparison
It probably is the greatest escape purely down to circumstances. Truth is, had they beaten the teams they should have and lost to ones that they also should have (not that anyone really has a right to win but go with me on this) they would have stayed up regardless. The exact same feat but seemingly less impressive. Beating Chelsea and Man Utd (a rejuvenated one) and drawing with City at a crunch time is amazing. No two ways about it. It's the Sunderland way though (so VJ tells me)
Firstly, it does have a lot to do with games in hand, as you had 6 games to go while other teams only had 4. Secondly, you are setting your own timeframe on this. West Brom were far more adrift at other points in the season but you only seem to take into account the last 6 games? Add in that Sunderland have a squad better than at least 5 or 6 this year, it's not all about numbers and stats. Why didn't you mention Fulham at all in your post? Either way, I don't care, it was still a massive achievement and fantastic season for your lot. Just can't agree at all with this "great escape" thing, think it's rather pathetic. EDIT: seen your comments on Fulham above
Drawing at the title winners, beating Chelsea on their own ground for the first time under Mourinho and winning at Old Trafford under Giggs ...... ....... is twice the feat of beating the relegation candidates at home. Again, no comparison
"Premier League history" is an oxymoron and only a moron would ever use it. Like there was no top level football before the premier league's inception See above for my counter to your great escape theory
Not in any way, I'm comparing us to West Brom over the last 6 games in each case ......... is this some kind of wind-up? You're wrong, West Brom were never 'far more adrift' at all. West Brom were only in the bottom 3 on GD with 6 to go, we were 'far more adrift'. I have mentioned Fulham and their escape doesn't match ours either
Arguably it's even easier to beat them under a manager in his first ever home game who is obviously absolutely clueless to it all. Giggs did nothing to suggest he could make Man U any better than Moyes did.
As you often say, I respond in kind. Sid was kind enough to give me a " ", so set the tone for the conversation. You ****.
Again you're talking numbers but failing to consider games in hand. 7 points adrift with 2 games in hand is potentially exactly the same as being 1 point adrift.
When we went to Man City we had no games in hand over West Brom and only 1 on the 3 relegated teams ......... wrong again. Whatever the case it doesn't equate to being 3rd bottom on goal difference. What you said was, "the likes of Fulham and WBA have pulled off far more unlikely feats." I've proved they weren't far more unlikely, in reality they were far more likely no matter how many hairs you split.
Moron is probably one of the least insulting insults you could use By the same token, you have jumped into a conversation not involving you to call someone a ****er, just because they called someone else a moron Embarrassing hypocrisy on your part...AGAIN. I'm pretty sure that was AFTER the Man City game...as West Brom was your other game in hand, no?
What you said was, "the likes of Fulham and WBA have pulled off far more unlikely feats." You were wrong as I've proved ..... I can't be arsed to split any more hairs with you.
