As the new Mod on here I'd thought I'd try and generate some debate. Goals scored, team 102 â Manchester City 101 â Liverpool 71 â Chelsea Two of the top scoring teams in Premier League history not only challenged the record of Carlo Ancellottiâs 2009-10 Chelsea team (103), they lapped the rest of the league. Youâd have to take away all of Luis Suarezâs goals to reduce Liverpool to Chelseaâs level. Goals scored, individual 31 â Luis Suarez 21 â Daniel Sturridge 20 â Yaya Toure Together, Suarez and Sturridge outscored 11 Premier League teams, but Yaya Toureâs contribution may have been as impressive. The Ivorian midfielder tallied more goals than Chelseaâs Samuel Etoâo, Fernando Torres, and Demba Ba combined (19). Goals from English players 48 â Liverpool 38 â Southampton 34 â Manchester United Not that it matters. Assists, individual 13 â Steven Gerrard 12 â Luis Suarez 9 â two players Two assists on the final day helped Gerrard claim this honor from Suarez, but the Uruguayanâs standing is a reminder of his yearâs dominance. Shots on target, individual 81 â Luis Suarez 45 â Romelu Lukaku 43 â Sergio Aguero, Wayne Rooney You knew Suarez would be on top, and as youâd suspect with a large gap on top of the goal scoring charts, the margin here is large, too. Daniel Sturridge had 42. Passes completed, team 18,532 â Arsenal 17,993 â Swansea City 17.863 â Manchester City Or about 488 per game, for Arsenal. Passes completed, player 2,255 â Yaya Toure 1982 â Mikel Arteta 1,908 â Steve Gerrard Like Suarez with shots, whatâs remarkable here is the gap. Toure averaged 69 completed passes per 90 minute(though Arteta averaged 74). Headed goals, team 14 â Liverpool 12 â Arsenal 10 â five teams One out of every 5.7 Arsenal goals came off somebodyâs head, with Olivier Giroudâs four second only to Wilfried Bony (five) for the leagueâs lead. Hit the woodwork, individual 9 â Luis Suarez 5 â three players Hitting the woodwork isnât bad luck, as is often implied, but itâs worth noting how close Luis Suarez was to an even more staggering goal total. Penalty goals, individual 10 â Steven Gerrard 6 â Yaya Toure 4 â three players âStevie Gâ scored 13 total goals this season, but imagine if Suarez took the spot kicks instead. He would have approached 40 goals while Gerrardâs place in our teams of the season may have gotten a second thought. Tackles, indiviual 133 â Mile Jedinak 121 â Steve Sidwell 120 â Pabl0 Zabaleta You expect central midfielders to be on this list, but Pablo Zabaleta is a right back. Farther down the list, Erik Pieters, Joel Ward, and Geoff Cameron also claim spots in the top 10. Saves, individual 149 â David Marshall 130 â Vito Mannone 124 â John Ruddy Vito Mannone is sandwiched between two relegated keepers despite playing only 29 games. Fouls won, team 454 â Sunderland 450 â Chelsea 448 â Manchester United The Black Cats were fouled 44 more times than Liverpool, though Fabio Borini, the teams leader in fouls won, was only 10th in the league. Why were opponents so willing to draw whistles against Sunderland? Fouls won, individual 89 â Eden Hazard 79 â Robert Snodgrass 76 â Adam Lallana Surprisingly, Luis Suarez is only fourth, 22 fouls behind Hazard. Then again: forward versus attacking midfield. Fouls conceded, team 491 â Aston Villa 486 â Stoke City 448 â Sunderland For Stoke, this may be the legacy of Tony Pulis, with Mark Hughes having inherited the former managerâs combative squad. For Aston Villa, Paul Lambertâs team spent most of its season without the ball (18th in possession, 43.8 pct.). Fouls conceded, individual 66 -Cheick Tiote 62 â Steve Sidwell 60 â Mile Jedinak Whereas Jedinak and Sidwell were also among the leagueâs most prolific tacklers, Tiote finished 10th on that list (107). Times subbed off, individual 19 â Leon Osman 19 â Adam Lallana 19 â Marouane Chamakh Itâs surprising to see Lallanaâs name here, but it also makes sense that three teams with consistent (game-to-game) plans had regular substitution patterns. Offsides, individual 33 â Luis Suarez 32 â Loic Remy 30 â Christian Benteke And Benteke only played 26 games. For Suarez, this is likely a function of his teamâs prolific attack. Yellow cards, team 78 â Aston Villa 72 â Stoke City 72 â Manchester City Manuel Pellegriniâs team wasnât even in the top 10 in fouls. When the Citizens went in, they made it count. Yellow cards, individual 11 â Pablo Zabaleta 10 â three players Lee Cattermole is jealous. The Sunderlandâs human IED didnât even make the top 10. Red cards, team 7 â Sunderland 6 â Newcastle United 5 â two teams Black Cats defender Wes Brown led the league with three dismissals. Only five other players drew multiple red cards. Clean sheets, individual 16 â Wojciech Szczesney 16 â Petr Cech 15 â Tim Howard Chelsea also led the league as a team with 18 shutouts. Players used 39 â Fulham 32 â Cardiff City 31 â Sunderland 31 â Crystal Palace All four changed managers (at least once) mid-season. All stats courtesy of Opta.
Can't really say that! Suarez isn't really very good at Penalties (that's why he didn't take them). He probably would have broken the overall record for most goals in a PL season- but I don't think he would have got too close to 40. I think what would have given more goals to Suarez (and indeed the whole team) would be if someone replaced Gerrard as corner-kick taker. He's always taken them and always been crap at taking them. Would be ridiculous to let Suarez take penalties instead of Gerrard though... replace someone great at penalties, with someone terrible at them.
Accusing Wenger of being specialist in failure for not winning trophies- and Arsenal winning more than Chelsea. That was pretty amusing.
If he scores 31 goals in the league every season- I couldn't care less if he never scores against the other three teams in the top 4 as long as someone does.
You don't seem to have these stats on your thread, so i've nicked then off a thread on the Toon board for you⦠Sunderland Have More Empty Seats Than Every Other Premier League Club ... Despite missing out on the north east top dogs award (which never gets mentioned unless the mackems fluke their way above Newcastle), Sunderland have found themselves once again the Premier League champions when it comes to empty seats. Sunderland fans failed to fill 168,777 seats over the course of their 19 Premier League matches of the 2013/14 season, giving them a figure of 81.9% of seats filled. In fact, as a testament to the popularity of the Premier League, it is quite remarkable that all but three of the twenty clubs had at least 92% of their seats filled over the course of the season. Ironically, none of the three relegated clubs were in that bottom three in terms of percentage of seats sold. (To feature like Dean, send in your letters/articles for our website to [email protected]) As well as the mackems being rock bottom (top?), our friends at Villa were next worst, then Palace next. In Newcastleâs case they had an occupancy rate of 96.2% which is a tribute to the number of season ticket holders and those buying single tickets, particularly in that second half of the season. Based on the 52,404 capacity used, it would mean Newcastle had 38,171 seats empty in the 2013/14 Premier League season. What happens next season will be interesting to see. 2013/14 Percentage Of Seats Sold In The Premier League 99.5% Arsenal 99.2% Chelsea 98.8% Spurs 98.4% Manchester City 98.4% Liverpool 98.3% Swansea 98.2% Manchester United 97.9% Cardiff 97.3% West Ham 97.2% Fulham 96.2% Newcastle United 94.7% West Brom 94.3% Hull 94.2% Stoke 93.4% Norwich 93.0% Everton 92.4% Southampton 87.3% Crystal Palace 84.3% Aston Villa 81.9% Sunderland Figures taken from respected website soccerstats.
Good thread, interesting reading for once. Certainly beats the crap the 2 Chelsea mugs constanly post about Livepool

and he will forever be known as the flat tracker. Just think if he had scored against one of the top 4 sides.... you could be champions! Effectively, Suarez cost you the league title and should be sold for his true value of £5million ( £60million minus £5million flat track fee, £20million hunger fee, £20million racist fee and the standard £10million fantasy price reduction ).
