devries was making same noises as rangel regarding willigness to sign a contract. seems did not offer anything like he could get somewhere else so jumped ship. and to be fair if someone offered you say double your wages for working somehwere else we would all say yes, no doubt. devries has been a great player for us and we need to thank him and move on. this seems to be a bit of a developing trend here, not offering enough money and players going else where. HOWEVER, i dont blame the board/chairman who are trying to keep debt free so cant blame them in their approach. we are between a rock and a hard place
The thing is even if he does go there are always someone to replace him, teams evolve and adapt as time goes on, we had trundle and robbo , then scotland and bodde replaced them, and then beattie came in and dobbie , it will keep going, we will miss players of course, but their replacements are often better.
Totally agree Jager Teams don't stand still, they always evolve. Don't agree with Beattie though. Rangel goes so be it. Bertrand in. DDV goes. Polish kid in. And on and on it goes. The only thing bothering me is all the rumours and very little action.
Well yes we do seem to improve on players when they jump ship, take Taylor in for Bessone, for a good example, but you don't want to be giving players away, can't understand so many of our players going for free these days, it's becoming a habit now!............. please log in to view this image
I threw beattie in to see the reactions lol, still not all replacements work out, in general though we have gone onto better players as we have come up from league two, yes we have some players still from that era, but we are infinity better than that team now
Phil my thinking on this is that all teams lose players for free at some stage, it all sort of evens out over the years, we have had some cracking players come in on a free or close to it over the years. Actually I wih they would do away with the transfer fee completely , I find it abhorrent!
I agree In fairness,as a club we've managed to snap up players for very small fees in the past and as a result have been able to offer short deals which offers the club minimal financial committment I think those days have passed,we now have players such as Graham,Ash and Sinclair-they have to be tied to longer term contracts or we are going to lose on the huge initial outlay or potential sell on
That's the point I was trying to make-we now have our saleable assets tied to the club Did it make financial sense in the past to tie relatively untried players to long term deals ? I'd like to think that in the future our players will be offered contract extensions a year in advance of their deals expiring or they're put up for sale
We say they've gone for free. But they got us to the PL and its £90m. So not bad business and the club don't report them as assets in the accounts. So have we lost out? As supporters we feel we have but as a business ?????? Anyway good luck to them. Bring on the new faces.
We tried to sign pratley and others to extension last year, so over a year left on contract , so within in what you said, thing is if they don't want sign it , it is up to them
Don´t forget too, I can´t remember when the contracts were offered, but the club weren't feted for promotion pre-season last year, so they were probably just covering their own backs at the time.
Correct-but we didn't attempt to cash in on them A gamble that they'd stay should we gain promotion Any new singings will no doubt be on longer than the 2 year deals or 1 yr extensions that have been the norm in recent years
Bl00dy good point PremierJack. Not reporting them as assets on the accounts is genius but we'll see if that will change this year.
is not about these players wanting to go because players can be replaced, what is alarming is that they were never put on long term contracts at the proper time and they are going for free, heads should roll for this, millions have been lost...
You keep on going on about long term contracts, a two year deal is normal in the football world, we can't offer longer for the most part as we don't know where we stand with things, they tried to offer contract extensions last year and was not successful, also millions have not been lost! Heads should not roll as tens of millions have been gained with these players gaining us promotion! In fact they should be commended for not being irresponsible and keeping a firm reign of wages, we will never go back to stupid policies , if players leave so be it!
It will be a fine line between trying to stay up & being ready to drop back to the Championship with regards to contracts & lengths of those contracts . Buck & Huw have their work cut out from them . Rangel to me is the same as De Vries , Pratley & Taylor . All have done the job for us but I got no problems with either or all leaving because all , at one time or another , have been a royal pain in the ass toward the team off the pitch . Just my opinion though .
Seems to me like he's working out the other deal before quitting, just in case it falls through. Dorus' agent said he would decide on weekend, but then all of a sudden he's already signed with Wolves. So he's obviously already decided, but was hedging his bets. Buck has got his work cut out replacing all the players that have left. But the good things is we will hopefully get better replacements.
I almost can't believe I'm typing this... but Tate at RB is a lot better than Tate at LB... so if Rangel does jog on, as it were, at least we've got some cover until we get someone else in. Don't get me wrong it's imperative we replace AR but at the same time Tate will slot in at RB easier than at LB, and my point is if both Taylor and Rangel go, we should look to tie down a quality LB before a RB.
