Do they need to replace their CB's? They will have saved a fortune in wages and Jones, Smalling and Evans played the more than those 2 last season. If you look at their record then they were far off being the worst defence in the Premiership - and that's all they've got to worry about next season. Then there's their midfield. Well buy a defensive minded player (there's plenty of mediocre ones about) for say £12 million. All you need is a body to sit in the middle of the pitch and kick anything that comes near him. After that reorganise the misfield and attack. Job good enough done - they hope. Well probably the Glazers hope.

Jones, Smalling and Evans are hardly giving the PLs top strikers nightmares. They conceded so few because they had two negative midfielders right infront of them for every game to shield them. I can't see LVG playing so defensively so they'll need to step up their game - and I think they're just average. They'll also lose Evra who, despite his critics, is actually a good defender and will be a big loss.

 

I would hate Robben at OT, but 2G1A said in one post that Van Gaal wanted Robben then in the next post said we should sell Young, Nani and Valencia but that would leave us with only one winger (Adnan). Just wondered where he thinks Robben plays

 

Maybe I should make this simpler; sell those three (I was under the impression most united fans weren't happy with them), buy Robben and keep Adnan. Last I checked, you hadn't bought him yet...so as of now, he plays nowhere

 

Hard to say since no two of them played against any of the leagues "top" strikers except in one game, Capital 1 cup, Evans & Smalling against Suarez & Sturridge, Liverpool lost 1-0. Just to show the rest of the fixtures, Evans & Vidic Eto`o scored 3, Ferdinand & Jones Dzeko scored 2, Ferdinand & Vidic Aguero scored 2, Ferdinand & Vidic Sturridge scored 1, Jones and Vidic Suarez scored 1.
Who are these two fantastic defensive midfielders we have? I must have missed the game they played in.

Never said your defensive midfielders were fantastic, but bodies help and if you have two sitting midfielders who rarely move beyond the halfway line you can compensate for poorer CBs.

 

To be honest i would love to see Jones and Evans get a run of games to form a partnership, i think they would do well. Last season we never played the same back four twice and i think that is the most important area to get a partnership/understanding settled.

It's not just new CB's United need. They also need 2 left backs and a RB. Maybe we'll sell them Johnson for £5m-£10m. He's the best English RB around in case didn't realise!
