According to reports in the Portuguese media, Sporting Lisbon are again trying to offload Diego Capel in the next transfer window. It was only reported last month that Newcastle United and Sunderland had been offered the player. O Jogo have reported today that Sporting Lisbon are to listen to offers for the Spanish midfielder and have put a â¬5m price tag on him. In the past few transfer windows the Portuguese club have tried to sell the player but have always failed in their attempts. Sporting has big debts and in recent transfer windows they have had to sell the likes of Ricky van Wolfswinkel to ease their financial woes. In April TMW reported that Capel had been offered to the two North East clubs. It had been claimed at the time that Sunderland were in the driving seat to sign the player but a lot depended on their Premier League survival. Gus Poyetâs men managed to avoid the drop but first the future of the manager needs to be resolved before any transfer business is done. Sporting Lisbon eagerness to sell Capel could result in either Newcastle and Sunderland getting a bargain. His price has already dropped from â¬7m when the club tried to find suitors in the January window. Sporting Lisbonâs main concern is getting him off the wage bill which may mean they might have to sell him for less than the â¬5m they are asking for at the moment. please log in to view this image No thanks.
Be an interesting buy Capel, done very well for Sevilla in his time, got 10 goals in 74 games for Sporting too which for a winger isnt great but its not dire If i remember right he's quite pacey and has some skill, could be a good buy depending on price
Capel is ****ing class, rapid as ****, great delivery. He's a lefty though, and as such it makes no sense to spend big money when we have AJ, they can't realistically play in the same side. Sporting are in the CL next season, as a note, so I doubt their financial state is that dire right now.

Sporting played a lot more through the middle this season, using Adrien Silva & William Carvalho as the hubs, also missed a fair few games, and many weren't starts. I wouldn't worry about a moody season for a player of that calibre.
No reason why not mate, lads been in Portugal and until this year Sporting have been mid-table. Higher wages, better league, and not really good enough to go top 6. I'd imagine Spanish interest in taking him back though, Valencia just bought by a billionaire and will be doing a major rebuild, Sevilla may like him back. We'd have a chance.
Marc Albrighton is poised to leave Aston Villa this summer with the claret and blues reluctant to match a better offer from a rival Premier League club. Albrighton is out of contract at the end of next month and although Villa would like to keep him, they face being gazumped by a top-flight foe. It is believed another Premier League club are prepared to give the 24-year-old winger a longer, more lucrative contract than Villa can offer. Albrighton will be available on a free transfer when his deal expires and Leicester, Everton and Sunderland have been monitoring his situation. The Bodymoor Heath academy graduate was Villa’s most consistent player late last season after returning from a loan spell at Wigan with a point to prove. It comes as Paul Lambert re-iterated his desire to bring in proven Premier League players despite the uncertainty surrounding the club’s future. Lambert has been given the go ahead to continue as Villa manager after jetting to the United States to meet chairman Randy Lerner late last week. The 44-year-old Glaswegian admits Lerner publicly placing the club on the market gives him an even bigger challenge in terms of player recruitment. Lambert stands by his belief Villa need better a better calibre of footballer, but cannot say with any certainty that sufficient funds will be made available.
Done deal : West Bromwich Albion have today announced the signing of Sunderland midfielder Craig Gardner, with the player to join the Baggies on a free transfer on July 1st. West Brom announced the deal on their website, making Gardner their first signing of the summer. He will move at the end of his Sunderland contract, and has signed a three-year deal with the Baggies. West Brom have been following the player for several seasons and as Baggies Director of Football Administration Richard Garlick confirmed, the Baggies are very happy to get their man. Speaking to the club website, he said: “Craig is someone we have followed for a long time and we are delighted to finally get him. “We tried to bring him here in the January transfer window but it did not work out. “We have continued to track him and he has expressed a real desire to be at this club following interest from elsewhere. “He has the flexibility to play in a few positions across the midfield, scores goals, and can slot in at right-back if required. “I think he will bring a freshness to our midfield area and his character will suit our dressing room. “We know we have a big summer ahead of us and it is great to get our first signing done so early.” Gardner has previously played at both Birmingham and Aston Villa, and returns to the Midlands after making 99 appearances for the Black Cats.
Albrighton and Delfouneso released The Club can confirm that Marc Albrighton has been released. The 24-year-old Tamworth-born winger made nine Barclays Premier League starts last season and 10 more as a substitute after a loan spell at Wigan Athletic. He joined the Academy as an eight-year-old and made 101 appearances in total following his debut in the UEFA Cup game at CSKA Moscow in February 2009, starting 48 Premier League games and making a further 38 appearances from the substitutes' bench. He also featured in 15 cup games, scoring nine goals in total and seven in the Premier League. Villa manager Paul Lambert said: "We wish Marc the best in his future career and acknowledge the contribution he has made to the Club over the past several years having graduated from our Academy." Nathan Delfouneso, another Academy graduate who spent last season on loan at Coventry, has also been released. The 23-year-old striker made four starts in the Premier League and 27 more appearances as a substitute. He also made 19 appearances in cup competitions, having marked his first team debut as a 17-year-old in the UEFA Cup second round tie against Icelandic side FH Hafnarfjörður in August 2008. Lambert added: "We also wish Nathan the best for his career and thank him for his efforts since he, too, graduated from our Academy." http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~3845958,00.html? Despite a strong finish to the Torneo Final Boca Juniors do not look to be resting on their laurels when it comes to recruitment. Obviously the contract saga of Juan Román Riquelme will dominate the close season but it would appear that Carlos Bianchi is moving forward with several other targets regardless. A striker is the priority judging by the names mentioned and top of that list is Sunderland striker, Ignacio Scocco and Gonzalo Bergessio of Catania. Both would surely bolster a Boca title challenge but would either fancy a move back to Argentina? Argentine Newspaper, ClarÃn is reporting that Boca have already made contact with Sunderland and Catania to sound out the potential transfer. Given the difficulties that Scocco has had since moving to England and the fact that it is understood he would be seen as a better partner to Emanuel Gigliotti, this move is perhaps the more likely. Scocco played just 6 times in the Premier League and unless their is a dramatic turnaround over the summer he will probably be deemed surplus to requirements at The Stadium of Light. A potential stumbling block could be if the Wearsiders want to recoup the €3.5 million they spent in January. Boca will be looking to raise funds by selling players but this could still be a step too far. Any deal for Bergessio would be far more complicated given that the former Racing and San Lorenzo scored 10 goals in Serie A and has other offers from clubs in Europe. Bianchi’s other strengthening will be in defence and with former target, Paolo Goltz on the verge of signing for Club América, Boca are eyeing his Lanús teammate, Carlos Izquierdoz. However, he too is attracting interest from México so alternative targets have been mentioned, including Sunderland’s Santiago Vergini. With several players reportedly available and plenty of targets it could be a buy window for Bianchi and Boca Juniors as they look to build on the Torneo Final and surpass their title winning rivals, River Plate.
