Spurmy, behave yourself! if Tony Pullis was appointed Man Utd manager (instead of Moyes) and given the opportunity to sign Fellani, he would have done a fantastic job. Hes all set for a bigger job and how many managers can say they got Chamakh focused and performing? not many. Future England manager and when he nears the end of his career, he has talked about managing Sutton Utd, which will please Tots, but hopefully Tots will still be around then.
Do other countries pick foreigners as their national managers or is it just the UK based teams? Roy managed Switzerland for a bit didn't he?
Other countries yes but not so much the top European countries like Italy, Germany, Spain etc. Usually when a nation selects a foreign manager its because they are desperate to try and bring in ideas from elsewhere, hence why England went for foreign managers in the past.
Off the top of my head: Russia have had Hiddink, Dick Advocaat and Capello in charge, Portugal had Scolari, Greece tend to go with non-Greek coaches, Scotland had Berti Vogts, Wales had Bobby Gould, Ireland had Jack Charlton, Mick McCarthey, Giovanni Trapottoni and Martin O'Neill, Australia had Venables, Hiddink and Pim Verbeek, Mexico had Ricardo La Volpe, Sven, and Bora Milutinovic, and then there's the various African and Asian nations that hire jobbing coaches before the World Cup.
Or the fans don't complain about the nationality of the manager before they've been hired. Wait until they make an utter bollocks of it, like Vogts did with Scotland, then complain!
The nationality of the manager shouldn't matter, we should be trying to get the best suited for the job. If we wanted to play more attractive football then we should have gone for a manager that plays that kind of football. If we wanted a manager to be more successful then we should've brought in a manager that's been successful in the PL, where all our players play. And if we wanted a manager to win us the World Cup then we should've got a bloody wizard instead of a manager.
I agree, thats why Redknapp was the best choice and Pullis is now the best choice. But its no coincidence that Germany, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Netherlands, Argentina don't go for foreign coaches, clearly they either produce a higher standard of coaches or they don't believe in employing a foreigner.....although I'm aware I haven't checked each nation from the beginning of time, and one may have employed one at some point (some statto can check) but overall even if they have it is extremely rare, even for them to consider a foreigner as in many ways its an insult to their national pride to employ someone from a different country.
"its no coincidence that Germany, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Netherlands, Argentina don't go for foreign coaches, clearly they either produce a higher standard of coaches or they don't believe in employing a foreigner." Their managers have a decent average player standard to work with. Contrast with the FA, who are arrogantly deluded in thinking the manager, not the average standard of the players, is the problem.
Thats why we have the FA Commission. No thats a fair point, they do have a better standard of player but ironically when England had the so called Golden Generation, who was manager? a sex mad swede! ........We should have had Hoddle in charge, so even when this country had a talented group (and it was talented) even if it was over hyped, the FA still turned to a foreign manager. Pullis is basically someone who can be accepted as English, he could manage anywhere, Rodgers will tell you that (seeing as we're on the mouser thread)...although Rodgers does talk alot of ****!
Jesus wept - It really tells a story when fans (or maybe a fan, haven't read too far back) want's Pulis as their manager Yeah he's doing well with Palace, but that's purely because the joker in charge Holloway is and always will be one of the worst managers in English football history.
Suarez became the first Liverpool player since Robbie Fowler in 1994-95 and 1995-96 to score 20 league goals in successive seasons. Well done HIAG
Pullis gained alot of respect for coming back from 3-0 to finish your title challenge and reducing Suarez to tears, hes the type of man you can't help but have respect for.
No denying that Palace did well in that game - but come on, you really want him as your next manager? That's just aiming so low it's impossible to fail.
He has all the qualities we need in a manager. Why be shy of handing a chance to someone just because he doesn't look the part or doesn't have a fancy name?
Spurs style of play doesn't suit Pulis's style of tactics. As for the 3-3 game, the significance and consequence of the result had no effect on Palace's season, unless you think they went all out to grab a draw knowing it would contribute to the end of our prem hopes.
