Nick Higgs took over as Chairman from Ron Craig in August 2008. Here's what always having a 'large budget' has done for us over the following 6 seasons: P 276 W 90 D 67 L 119 GF 349 GA 398 PTS 337 So there it is: * won fewer than a third of our games * lost over 43% ! * GD of -49 Of course the managers put the teams on the pitch and determine formations and tactics. BUT such consistent poor performance (including two relegations) must call into question who oversees recruitment and contracts and holds managers to account while they're with us. Inspired leadership!
Not sure we can just blame Higgs. Dunford and co need a kick up the arse also. If they learn from their mistakes fine, but I don't expect they will. Time to prove us wrong now as get us out of this **** division and kick on from there
no disrepect here to the board but their statement when we got relegated from league 1 was something like "mistakes have been made which we will learn from". Higgs statement during this week: “It is still difficult to come to terms with what has happened, but we are where we are and we have to pick ourselves up and move forward. We have learnt by our mistakes, there are things we would have done differently, but we have hit rock bottom..." hmmm...
This is how our recruitment process works, so I have been told by someone in the know. 1) The manager makes up his list of targets and discusses them with the chairman. 2) The chairman then agrees / disagrees with players on that list and discuss contract details (before any discussion with players) making sure they will fit into the budget. 3) The manager then with his approved list, deals with all the contract negotiations with players such as wages/length of contract knowing the chairmans limits. 4) The chairman then ratifies the deal.
I can't believe the board didn't sit down and seriously think about what would happen if we were relegated. Some forward planning would have been useful rather than surprise and shock at our situation. They're not going to hit the ground running and it really doesn't inspire confidence. It's taken Cambs Utd 10 years to get back into the league after two failures in the playoffs... scary stuff.
what about these stats ! 2010- 11 season : L1 Wins 11 draws 12 defeats 23 2011 – 2012 season : L2 Wins 15 draws 12 defeats 19 2012 – 13 season : L2 Wins 16 draws 12 defeats 18 2013 – 14 season : L2 Wins 12 draws 14 defeats 20 OVERALL WIN PERCENTAGE for the last FOUR seasons of 29.35 % What do you think about that Gasheads ?
There was very much an attitude of 'this ain't gonna happen, and even if it does we'll deal with it then'. FACT
