A little word of advice sonny. You can spout your crap all you want but religious references don't go down well on this board -or Everton's. We left that behind us decades ago!

This guy is a typical narrow minded, blinkered muppet who's idea of boards like this is just to goad fans of other teams. The rest of us with an iq higher than our shoe size can have an intelligent debate whilst he's dragging his knuckles along the floor. He calls Villas-Boas a school boy manager yet he's won more than Redknapp has in his entire career and then claims we have tapped up Modric with out a shred of evidence, but he won't let facts get in the way of his idiocy. My wife is Jewish and I have a lot of Jewish friends who find the word Yid very offensive but you can bet this idiot would be among those singing 'yids' at games, that's if he goes to games.

We could get Mata ( I think he's a priority anyway), we could get Cazorla too if we tried for the other wing. Those 2 players are LIGHT Years better than the likes of Downing and Young.

I can't believe you got slammed so bad Daydodoe, but this right here really, for me, cannot be argued. You are really going to try and defend that Downing and Young are better or equal to Cazorla or Mata? No F'ing chance lads! No chance!

I know what we are going for, get the top English talent in, get a good core of hard working players, get back into the top 4 with players who are prem ready, I get it. But when the chance to get Mata or Cazorla is there for around the same price as 19 MILLION for Downing, I have to go with Spain every time.

The banter is on a slow burner but i'm sure in 7 weeks all that will change

Atm it does look like we are raiding the English youngsters

But if there is a chance to get the likes of Mata then we would be silly not to go for them

I think perhaps we've got to look at this a different way...

Spain do indeed have better youngsters and players at the moment, but the problem comes when we ask them to move over here. At the moment this country does have a decent number of Spanish players - but recently quite a few have fled back to Spain. I think there's a sort of aversion for younger players abroad to move here and play because of the risks involved - they've seen the once big name stars of Morientes and Veron and decided they don't want to turn out like them - not going to take the risk of going to a harder league.

As for Liverpool... For the past 7 years we've had quite a large Spanish contingent, but slowly they went towards the end of Rafa's reign; Arbeloa, Garcia, Alonso, Torres, Morientes, Josemi, Miki Roqué, Mikel San José, Riera all came and left. Those that are still here: Ayala, Pacheco and Reina. It's not a coincidence that as soon as the Spanish speaking core started to leave the team fell apart.

Kenny is trying to establish a new core, just like Rafa did with the Spanish players - Kenny will do with the British players. Let's not forget - Kenny doesn't believe in individual merits, he believes everyone has a job to do on the pitch and they need to go out there and do it. So people will slate the likes of Carroll and Henderson as big wastes of money - but if they have a job to do and they do it well then their price tag has been justified because it's the price of success.

We've all got far too used to the idea of foreigners playing the game in the past few years, we're forgetting that the PL was designed by and for English footballers. The Majority of players are still British, so whilst there are better players in the Spanish leagues, not all of them will suit the PL.

The type of play we're moving to is a type of tiki-taka/total football, so naturally Spanish players would fit in a treat, but Kenny knows that too many Spanish players and too many English players in one squad will cause rifts. You need 1 core, and players to fit around it - not 2 cores with a few spots unfilled. He wants a British core, a few Brazilians, a few spaniards etc.. so when everyone is saying we need to bring in Mata, Jeffren Suarez, Enrique, Gago etc... that'd be 4 spanish players + Reina in the first 11 and that's what we're trying to move away from.

On the other hand... Mata is a quality player, and if I had to pick someone from Spain (apart from Messi) who I'd like to come here it'd be him (or Aguero).

Brilliant post. [King] Kenny is just building the foundations to the squad that will last for years to come. Most people are just worried that if we have to sign Downing or Mata for the same price, choosing only one, Liverpool will sign Downing who is good, but not as good as Mata.

Even if we bought a few more english players and threw Mata and N'Zogbia into the mix it would make a good team with a strong core and flair at the same time.

On the other hand, we can't just have 5 or so foreign players in the squad, after all, first teamers are more likely to get injured, who would fill their roles which is designed to fit around the squad to add more flair?

The second line of your post says it all, "Kenny is just building the foundations to the squad that will last for years to come." That's the whole point of this summer's exercise with himself and DC. We are not in the market to buy big names to 'freshen things up'. We are building. I really don't think that it matters to them where the players come from. What is more important to them is the ability of those players to fit into the pattern that they want to play.

I do accept that there is a problem of cliques forming when too many players come from a particular country. At the moment we appear to have a good mix. This is identified by Lucas (who's first language is Portugese - though Mirrales would disagree with that!) being the player chosen to help Suarez (who's first language is Spanish - though Reina would disagree with that!) to settle-in. They are now surrounded by English players and maybe just as importantly Scouse accents!

The vital thing in this summer's building programme is have the players we are considering got what it takes to play the Liverpool way.

So, stand by for loads of wumming because we haven't bought star names.

It was actually Dirk Kuyt who was one of the first to help Suarez settle in.Suarez even though his first language is Spanish,is also fluent Dutch. He and Dirk Kuyt in games communicate in Dutch.

So that is why one of the first pieces on the LFC site has Suarez saying lucas was really helping him settle-in! But it's not worth arguing about:emoticon-0100-smile
