NEWCASTLE UNITED boss Alan Pardew is ready to make German Under 21 striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga his first big signing of the summer.

By: John RichardsonPublished: Sun, May 18, 2014

Alan Pardew has turned his sights to Pierre-Michel Lasogga after giving up on Loic Remy[AFP]

The Hertha VSC player is finishing a season long loan with Hamburg and has attracted the interest of a number of clubs including Everton.

But Pardew, who as Sunday Express Sport revealed last Sunday has been backed to stay on as Toon boss despite growing pressure from disillusioned fans, knows he has to make important signings during the summer.

Lasogga at 22 fits the requirements of Newcastle's transfer committee which includes owner Mike Ashley, young with bags of potential.

He could cost up to £10 million but Pardew believes the experience of the Bundesliga will serve him well in the demanding Premier League.

Alan Pardew, Newcastle United, Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Hertha VSC, EvertonLoic Remy has already said goodbye to St James' Park [GETTY]

Pardew also needs a replacement for Loic Remy who has returned to QPR after a successful loan spell at St. James' Park but informing Newcastle that he was unlikely to return to the North East on a permanent deal.

Remy wants to play in the Champions League and is hoping Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger hardens his interest in the French international.

Newcastle have also enquired about Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell who spent the club's title season in the shadows.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez who attempted to bring Rodwell back to Goodison Park on loan in January is still interested but Pardew hopes to persuade the forgotten England player that he can become a star on Tyneside.

I wonder if Remy may find himself on the shelf, all the speculation about Arsenal seems to have cooled as the media in general seem to be reporting Wengers interest as lying elsewhere. Will only think about us when I start to see some signings, problem is that the media have to fill the pages with something the majority of which turns to smoke.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Remy. You'd imagine a CL club somewhere in the world will take a chance. As a an Arsenal fan, its pretty clear where he'd hope his future lies.

It would be interesting to know what type of player Lasogga is. He's certainly been fairly prolific this season, but was this a flash in the pan or does he have the attributes to be consistently effective? We certainly need someone with pace and clever movement.

He's been the only bright spark in an otherwise forgettable season for Hamburg. Without him they would been relegated automatically.

A line?? Over the line? What line? No-one's ever mentioned a line before!!

What's the line got to do with it?

Do we know where the line is? What colour is it? Are there any clues how to find it?

OMG the whole transfer window could be a complete waste if we don't get answers to these questions.

No wonder signing players is so hard if you have to find the line first!!

He was never as bad as Shola. No one will emulate the ****ing ****ness that useless **** produced for us over many, many years of wretchedness.

I like Rodwell but I'd want a rigorous medical! Looks like there will be a clutch of useful English players on the move this summer if rumours are to be believed. The likes of Richards, Lescott, Barry, Milner, Rodwell, Sinclair, Zaha, Caulker, Ince, Colback, Delph, Lennon, Townsend, Beharino, Redmond, Campbell, McCarthy, Ruddy all look likely movers. Plenty of talent in amongst that lot.

    McCarthy

    Richards
    Lescott
    Rodwell
    Caulker

    Barry
    Delph
    Milner

    Lennon
    Townsend
    Beharino

Ruddy, Redmond, Ince, Sinclair, Campbell, Colback, Zaha

Best part of a decent squad in that lot.

This is my honest view on these players:

McCarthy : Don't have an opinion

Richards : Yes, always liked him - can't see him coming here.

Lescott : Good defender - I reckon his wages would be to be big.

Rodwell : Might be ok, I can't judge the guy for sitting on the bench for most his city tenure.

Caulker : No. Don't rate him.

Barry : No way - never rated him at Villa either. One of the Scotty Parker type players I loathe

Delph : Nah not for me.

Milner : Would never come back here. He sounds ******ed when he speaks and I can't bear to listen to him.

Lennon : Gone abit **** recently, would never leave London imo. End up at QPR if they get promoted.

Townsend : One of the overated lot, plays a few good games and people make him out to be some sort of amazing player. Very greedy as well.

Beharino : Flash in the pan.

Ruddy: Average Keeper imo. Then again if it meant him or that Pardew rimmer we have on the bench now I would go for Ruddy

Redmond: I saw enough of him at Blues to see he was **** and has been **** for Norwich

    Ince: Maybe, not sure.

    Sinclair: Don't know about him.

Campbell: What Frasier? No way on ****ing earth do I want him here.

Colback : Ginger, plays for Sunderland, only has the odd good game, usually against us. Don't want him here.

Zaha: Was good at Palace, left, rogered Moyes daughter and has been **** for Cardiff. No thanks

Whatever occurs it won't be a better season next year it's relegation survival and a club on our finances barley would last in the championship these days.

I would welcome more British players into the squad.

Not sure why Milner has been mentioned though.

He gets regular game-time at Man City... even if it is from the bench mostly.

He's on a fat contract that most clubs would not even consider.
