I'm not annoyed at him leaving. I'd be disappointed if he chose to leave us and go to a rival. There is little to no loyalty in football these days from players so if he chooses to go to a rival I fail to see why he should get any from me either. I won't dislike him, just not care either way any more.
He could have kicked up a fuss and left ages ago if he wanted to, yet he stayed and soldiered on whilst the squad around him was decimated. He's a made man for life in my book, even if he's at citeh, i'll show him some love.
Why would he kick up a fuss? He's paid incredibly well, loved by the fans and a regular starter for an excellent club. In my opinion he's had things pretty good. I don't know the ins and outs of the contract saga so I can't comment there.
He was one of the best rbs in Europe playing for a club that won jack all while he was there. If he'd wanted to, he could have gone to most clubs & won trophies, so I won't begrudge him a move now, even to City, for a big paycheque and a couple of medals before retirement.
I'm not taking umbridge at the idea he might have wanted to leave, merely the idea he might have had a reason to be uppity and demanded a move. He's had things pretty good at Arsenal and whilst not winning anything at least played constantly at the top level. Don't make me laugh at the idea that he's ever been hard done by by us! I'd also say that for the he was out for pretty much 18 months through double leg breaks including a ropey recovery period (understandably) where the club and fans stood by him. I can understand our reticence at offering a new long term deal a few years back when it wasn't clear how well he'd return from his injury. Now he's suddenly playing well again and has decided to move on - meh. I don't doubt we offered him a very good offer to stay and he's chosen not to accept it. Meh again. If he chooses to go abroad and play week in, week out then all power to him but if he's chosen a bit more money to sit on City's bench then I think it's a waste and I'll lose some respect for him.
He's paid badly for his job though. How many other World Class fullbacks, playing at the top level get paid less than 100k a week? He's one of our most senior, loyal players - for me he deserves to be one of the highest paid.
Rosicky is the ONLY example. True but judging from Arteta's comments. I think the 1 year deal thing still seems to be the standard. (or perhaps now its 2 years and a low wage bracket - either way its not good enough)
We've also supposedly been offering a new deal for 18 months or so. Baring in mind before that period he was injured/playing poorly I don't think his wages are that surprising. This is hypothetical but I'd like to think had he not have been injured then we would have tied him up with a new deal years ago...but we'll never know. I do agree that he's on the lower side of wages for a top player (in England) but imo there are mitigating circumstances for it. Look at Mert/Kos all on new bumper wages and he could have been too.
Personally I just cant see any way that Sagna can be resigned on anything but a reduced contract and two years maximum. There is every chance that he will not be good enough to play RB for us next year. We have to sign a new RB anyway, in case Jenks is not good enough. Why would you make a player that might not get a game the highest paid player at the club for the next 3 years?
I have very little sympathy for players who leave Arsenal. Once they go they are just another ex player and as far as I'm concerned that's it, they've severed the ties so I don't really give a **** about them anymore.
As long as the player leaving hasn't kicked up a stink, i see no reason why i should immediately hate them. That's why i still have love for people like Bobby, but not for Fabregas.
It depends on the player and how they leave for me. For example I have no animosity towards clichy, but rvp was a **** of the highest order. I still have plenty of love for fabregas, but Nasri is a fat lesbian. It's all about circumstance.
With Fabregas just picture yourself in his position with a chance to join Arsenal. I think he should have just come out right from the start and said he wanted to join them but I never begrudged him his move
