Can't help but feel we disappointed we have lost the majority of the title winning squad from League 1 know, Kermorgant, BWP, Haynes, Hollands, Stephens, Green all already having confirmed exits, add Hamer to it and I would persume Morrison won't be signing either due to lack of ambition. This leaves us with only really Jackson, Solly and Wiggins from the title winning season. All players leave with my gratitude as to be honest it was the only really successful season I have witnessed being a Charlton fan.
Those players did a great job in League One and some of them did a decent job in the Championship, but we now have to move on and look forward to the new signings who will begin arriving on Monday. JR has his targets and he will set to work signing them once the contract is signed and sealed. Keep the faith.
I have to say that league one is'nt the championship. Some of that squad effortlessly made the switch to the new level, ad for various reasons, done to death on other threads (Stephens, Kermogant) are drifting to other clubs. Others found the jump much harder, and have struggled to hold down a place in a struggling team (Green, Pritchard). I assumed when we came up the idea was to push on up, and while lack of invetsment meant that did'nt happen, we've now got new owners who may see greater riches in a promotion bid than mere survival, so it's not a suprise the old squad has mostly evaporated. Whether the new recruits are up to the job, time will tell. I hope the directors will learn from the pigs ar they made of the january window, but again, time ill tell. Apart from that, simply wish all the members of the promotion squad good luck for the future, and thanks for all their efforts in winning promotion and then keeping us up, and none of them will be getting booed by me if they come back to the Valley weraing an away shirt!
To be fair, Green was very patchy, and Pritchard (and Wagstaff) very limited, even at Div One level, so no great surprise they didn't make it. BWP and Hollands were mediocre in the second half of the promotion season and Taylor was always going to be too slow for the Championship. Add Jackson's fitness problems, and the fact that we won Div One without a LM, and considerable surgery was always going to be needed.
