    That was the first one I really took an interest in....mainly because of Sir Stanley. Was listening on the grass at our cricket match and the finish was incredible. Unbelievable that Matthews was still playing top level football at nearly 50.

    Part of that great quiz question;

    Sunderland in 79
    Villa in 81
    Who in 80?

    That was a good final - Hull's very own Alex Dawson played for Preston and that was about as close a link between us and the FA Cup final that we could manage in those days.

    The first is the '85 Man Utd v Everton when Kevin Moran was the first player ever to be sent off in a Cup Final. The best I remember though was Coventry beating Spurs 3-2 in '87, very entertaining. Don't remember many over the last few years, probably because I've been away for so many or when I was at home, probably working.
    Hopefully all other finals will be a distant memory after tomorrow!

    The Underground and main rail line from London to the midlands ran through the grounds of the boarding school I attended which was about four stops from Wembley. It was 1960 and I recall train loaded with Wolves supporters with scarves hanging out the windows heading to the final v Blackburn. I remember there was a big cut out of the cup on the front of steam locomotive. The following year, I watched my first final Tottenham 2 v Leicester 0 on a little black and white TV in the boys common room. That was it, I was hooked and that same year, I made my first visit to Boothferry Park walking to the game with my cousin. We stood on bunkers hill but unfortunately, I don't recall our opponents.

    It was. Remember that one well as on the night went to see the Rolling Stones at Bridlington Spa. As I went out my dad said "Make the most of it, another six months and everyone will have forgotten them". A remark I reminded him of regularlynover the nextb39 years until he passed away.

    Aye, that Houchen goal was top class – straight in the park afterwards trying to replicate it.

    I recall Cov beating Leeds in the ’87 Semi (was it played on a Sunday?).

    I think in the other semi was Watford (good side back then) v Spurs – Watford had some sort of GK crisis beforehand, losing Coton and Sherwood I think and ended up signing some sort of part time GK to play. They lost 4-1.

    Was it 87 as well when Giant Haystacks broke Bomber Roach's ribs in the World Of Sport's FA Cup Final Battle Royal?

    The dirty bastard.

    I also remember the Forest v Spurs final when Gazza did his knee in with that tackle on a Garry Parker. If he'd been booked for the first crazy tackle then I doubt he would have gone in like that for the second. He should still have been sent off for that, Forest were robbed that day.
