I remember Everton Watford in 84 Man U Everton in 85 Liverpool Everton in 86 Spurs Coventry in 87 Liverpool Wimbledon in 88 but probably none of ANY since The FA Cup as a spectacle disappeared around the time the Premier League took place as all of football marketing was surrounding this new venture
The Man U vs Everton with Whiteside and Moran hitting the headlines is the first I remember and then Spurs v Coventry really sticks in the mind. Houchen's diving header was amazing. Strange really, as I was 10 at the time of Man Utd vs Everton. Dont know why I dont recall an earlier one.
The worst one I've been to, by some distance, was Portsmouth v Cardiff in 2008. It was absolutely dire.
Ipswich-Arsenal, 1978, was my first. I too don't remember many since the late 80s. That is partly because it has declined as a competition, partly cos the 70s and 80s was when i was a kid and had fewer things on my plate, but another big factor is that until, i think, the 1982-83 season, the FA Cup final was practically the only live club game on TV. That and European finals that British teams were in. Just to be able to see a live club game on tv was a big deal back then.
1953 Blackpool v Bolton Wanderers. Big build up to the game as to whether Stan. Matthews could be on the winning side at the age of 38.Exciting game with Blackpool down 3-1 and coming back to win 4-3 in extra time. City signed the hattrick scorer Stan.Mortenson 2 years later.
