Anybody else suffer with Gout? Bloody cripples me about once every couple of months. I've got a flare up in my right ankle now, I'm taking Naproxen but if you see a slow moving hobbling fat bloke on Wembley way, it'll be me.
The perception that it's fatty foods is wrong, 2 of the main triggers for me are broccoli and kidney beans. It's quite a long list.
The more I read up, the more I realised you have to find your own way of limiting it. Getting it wrong brings on a sharp incentive to try harder though. I can recognise the signs and act earlier and earlier now.
Suppose so, according to the figures, about 57% of Hull residents are overweight dodgy ESA claimants.
I got gout because of the medication I had for my blood pressure, it led to kidney stones. Once my medication was changed I started to take 100mg of Allopurinol everyday and I have not had any recurrences. Gout is often considered to be self inflicted but no one in their right mind would want it. As for kidney stones, the pain is simply terrible and I would not wish it on anyone, my first bout put me in hospital for a week and the second for two weeks.
Being serious for a minute, that figure they came up with for obesity was laughable. They decided that obesity was linked to diabetes, so looked at hospital admissions for diabetes and used that as the surrogate for local residents being obese. It ignored what should have been the actual news, which was that Hull Hospitals had such a high reputation for dealing with diabetes, people travelled from all over (including international) to get treatment at Hull.
I get it from time to time, but those tiny pills usually sort in a day or so. Though they also give you the ****s.
I am a fat ****er, no excuses from me, I'm fat because I am a lazy twat. ButI am also quite strong and relatively in good health, my blood pressure is well under control and if I lost a little weight it would not need any meds. 138/88 on my last check up with meds, 150/92 without meds. I am obese and I know it, but I do not have cholesterol issues and diabetes tests show that I do not have problems. My problem is that I work all day (I did my first job at 7 am) I sit around or drive for 90% of the day and my days can be quite long. I am posting this whilst waiting for confirmation for my next job, but I will end up sat in my office all day and the truth is that when I finish I feel ****ed. Going to the gym, not a chance. My old office had a gym 50 yards away that I could use, but I only went there for work.
But we do have a higher than national average for amputations in diabetics in Hull. We are a tertiary centre that covers a wide geographical area inc south of the Humber. This adds to these figures greatly as unfortunately the health of people in Grimsby and Scunthorpe is generally poorer than Hull's.
I've had gout for years and I can tell you that it is hereditary. My Dad had it. I take 300mg of Progout every day and have had no problems since. It first came to light when I was a rakehand on an Asphalt Road Crew (35 years ago) and I thought I had done an Achilles or something. My Doctor told me straight away what it was and blood tests confirmed it.I was as close to being an alcoholic as you can get in those days and the 'high-life' doesn't help. I also take Uremide/Urex/Frusemide (commonly referred to as 'p1SS tablets') to help flush the salt out of your system. When you've got it you don't want anyone within a mile of you but the correct medication will get control it for you.
Seems like a lot of men on here have gout Ben. Am surprised so many do. Wonder what the correlations are.
The only constant appears to be that it's a male condition, I'm sure women get it too but they're just to busy whinging & moaning about childbirth & everything else to notice. I think. Now pop the cork & get a steak on.
I was thinking more fat ****ers who drink too much, but we'll go with just male Hull City supporters on this board.
