I wish that were true. But the whole thrust of this argument is that they DONT agree with the other things.
I'm not an Allam hater, I'm really grateful for what he's done for the club, but I'm not an idiot either. The fact is, he fell out with the council, he started behaving like a small child and he continues to do so. He's not a smart man, he's a successful one, but not a smart one. In fact, he's stupid, which is a crying shame.
I didn't call anyone names, and the statement that Stuart was right in saying they've been bought is totally clear. Two posters admitted themselves that Allam could do what he wants because he saved the club originally. That's being bought however you dress it up. And yes, most of those things you've listed also amount to being bought. You're pointing separate good things that have happened at the club which you seem to be using to justify Allam's disgusting comments. That's the very definition of being bought surely? This could go on all night, it's as if you don't read the posts. This thread was fine until you started some crap with Blampey. Your posts on the subject have made no sense. You started this one by attacking those who are offended by Allam. I piped up in defence of that view and you simply can't accept it. You seem to want everyone to like Allam no matter what the reasoning for not doing and you're simply not interested in debating it properly.
PLT, You are wrong, to say someone has been "bought" is in my view not the right word. Being "bought" implies that a person is corrupt and accepts bribery or even prostitutes themselves. If you said to me to my face that I have been "bought" I would react as if you had sworn at me, let me put it this way...who the **** are you to question my integrity? That perhaps puts it into perspective. Now if you said that supporting everything that Assam Allam had or wants to do was foolish, thats fine. But who am I to tell you that.
------- Assem Allam. I will praise him for all the donations he has made to cancer research, the daisy appeal, the hull university research centre and what he has done for the castle Hill Queens centre. Mr Allam really isn't the big bad bogey man by along way.. ------- However, if he continues the name change idea I would rather he left. The FA said NO That should be the end of it.
That is foolish, but attempting to justify it by saying he's done some other good things is admitting that he bought your trust. It doesn't have to be corrupt if it's a public figure buying support. It's weak on the part of the person being bought. Surely whether we were talking face to face or not you could see that? I'm not interested in offending anyone online or offline but a few of you now have objected to the term but then explained a situation that sounds like being bought. Maybe the term should be 'sold out'.
I agree with most of this. I don't think he's a bad man and I think he bought City with the best intentions. I don't buy all the property development theories etc. However I think it's clear he doesn't have the social skills to be in a position of authority. He can run a private business where he's only responsible for himself but he simply isn't equipped to be the custodian of a football club where he's responsible for a community asset which affects thousands of people.
That'd be awfully soft of them. If they really are that upset about it, then they should look into the reasons why and try to understand it. I've explained it enough times.
Think the thread speaks for itself. A few people have got flustered about Allam criticism on a thread that only exists because of his latest round of nonsense (what the **** did you three expect on here?) I've tried to explain why, which shouldn't be necessary, but the three of you just 'la la la' like this. There's none so blind as those who won't see.
The morals of this view are wrong on every level. Having financial clout is not a reason to expect others to either change or stop expressing their honestly held opinion. If you expect it to be brutally imposing, or use it as a lever to support your poorly expressed and feebly supported strategy, then you are far more than a fool , or an egocentric bully, you are basically bad. Bow to me and what I say is right because I have the money and money is power. Question: where do you stop a tyrant? Answer: before he becomes one. Giving to charity to enhance your reputation does not make you good; it the small things, the consideration and tolerance for others, the civility, the using two ears and one mouth in proportion, and, of course, not telling lies, that will go some way to doing the trick. Some huge opinions (elsewhere on here) based on no fact other than success; the pieces of silver chinkle, the club and its integrity will end up carrying a cross, when we should be watching them sail to the box. I'm open to anyone showing me something to change my opinion and no one comes close - in fact, the opposite is the case.
Yes sold out is fine. The point is that Assem Allam has done some good things for the club and for that he has to get respected, but even in my view it doesn't excuse some of his behavior.
No one will ever prove you wrong Fez but quite a few will try. I agree with some of what you post but I have a softer view of it. I dont think he sets out to be a tryant, remember the emperors new clothes, no one dare tell him he is wrong who is close to him.
PLT, I think you fail to grasp is that for some people changing the name of the football club is nothing compared to enjoying the success that has been bought by the money made available because of Assem Allam. Just because you do not like what he has done and said does not make you more righteous than another supporter. I once was of the view that I wanted to do business with him, but that changed last year. I tried to be as neutral as I could. I have always said that as long as Hull City was the name of the club/team I would support it. I personally am not too bothered about AFC, I would rather it was kept, but would not object strongly if it went. I had/have a greater goal, active supporter involvement, but it will not happen under Assem Allam and that becomes more apparent every time he speaks. I am not being fooled by him, I simply accept that like many people he has his good points and his bad.
Good response, but regarding the emboldened bit I can definitely grasp that fact, I obviously don't agree with those people but I can accept that's their view. However look at how this particular debate started. It wasn't me or anyone else criticising someone for holding that view, it was the other way around. I came in mid-way to defend the opposite view, which was being attacked unfairly.
I have changed my opinion often, on here and in life in general. For that to happen I need to be convinced that my current opinion is wrong and until someone on here can do that then you are right in what you say. keep trying. Why do you think no one dared to tell him something so important to his dignity - was it because he was approachable, open to opinion, consultative; or was he a tyrant who his subjects feared? Whether or not someone sets out to be a tyrant is irrelevant, what matters is whether or not they become one and within our football club that is what has happened to Allam. He and his son admit to not being football fans, he admits to not being a generator fan, so it is the money and prestige (power?). He bullshits us with too many conflicting statements and lies and expects us to believe that everything he does is for us. He is now polarising the support (always an objective), he is continuing with his name-change strategy (it was him who broached it 3 days before the Cup Final!) and he laughs at money-centred people who swallow when he pats them on the head - these are the bought ones. It has been abundantly shown, in recent times, that someone who appears to be charitable, may have deep-seated ulterior motives. It is only the nature of the motives that will vary, the manipulation and lies are much the same. I personally thought all of this was very obvious when he consistently and shamelessly lied to us and the media; he was never someone to trust, from that moment on. My position has been very consistent, others are starting to agree - although they don't want to lose the football. Good for them, I have made my decision and they are entitled to theirs.
