Despite a promising pre-season the manager at the time decided that blank firing Shecter and Vasquez were better players, and I think he ended up on loan in second half of this season?

He signed a loan deal with Coventry in January but came back after one day. Swansea apologised to Coventry over the issue, he refused to stay there, as a result he then couldn't play for Swansea until next season.

    Another go at ML.
As much as we wanted Donnelley to make the grade he wasn't close. Schecter and Vazquez had the nod over him as they were aware of which direction we were playing. The fact none of the three could perform at our level was disappointing but we could not know without trying.
The situation with Coventry is hard to understand but he must have preferred to be with ML than to stay there.

Bob in pre season Donnelly was banging them in. Under Laudrup, he never had the opportunity to prove if he could hack it in the PL as he kept choosing his useless back up strikers over him.

Have you ever seen Donnelly play? He's utterly useless. Get rid.

The thing is i have watched him on a regular basis before he was forced by laudrup to go to Coventry and he was the reserve star player who should have played a part in the first team. I don't blame the lad for rebelling against laudrup and refusing to play for Coventry...I hope monk treats the lad better as he is not a bad player...

Strong description. Donnelly was one of number of young players making no progress or even going backwards with many, at the time, claiming he needed regular football. The management team found him an excellent club (in my opinion too good for the ability shown by the young man). If a player can't cope with a move a couple of hours up the road how would manage a transfer to Carlisle, Falkirk or Cardiff?

This was One of Laudrups hangups in his management skills. He would not discuss with the players anything and would make decisions like sending donnely to play for coventry without taking into account the players feelings. Laudrup is right about sending the young player out on loan to get league experience but it is the way that he done it that got the lad pissed off, He should have sat the lad down and discussed his future and what the club wants to do and not just let the lad turn up for training and say dont get changed today your off to coventry......These are bad management skills and that is why he alienated the players in the end from himself...

It was Jenkins who forced him to go to Coventry: Jenkins is the director of sport and decides what to do with youth players. It's Donnellys rebellion against Jenkins that has put him on ice!

It wasn't mate. it was the same situation with KI and Jenkins did not know what deal laudrup did with him until he found out we could not recall him last January. A Manager if he is to get the best out of his players must not do things behind their backs and not involve them as that is the quickest way to get the players backs up. Instead of doing things properly and involve the player and the chairman then everyone would know what is going on....Jinx did not know the ins and outs of Ki's loan for gods sake and he never knew about Donnelly either. that's poor management skills from a manager....

I'd like to see him given a chance at least. If he fails so be it but he must be worth a crack.

I didn't know that setting up contracts and career development was the managers responsibility.

I think Young Rory has been poorly treated by everyone at the club and being sent to coventry like he was was the breaking point for the lad and i have some sympathy for him. He has been badly treated using him in Pre season and sitting on the bench now and again and then ignoring him would upset any player. He can see shelvey who is younger than him getting his chance and he was expecting the same as he was training with the first team...I hope that monk in this new season either use the guy and not put his hopes up like laudrup did or sit down with the player and chairman and discuss his future and if that means sending him out on loan for the season then do it properly and involve the player in making decisions. I have seen enough of donnelly to see that he is a bright young talented player who can make the grade if he is managed right. I hope whatever we do will be in the best interest for the lad and the club, He deserves that at the very least...
