Only surprised at Gregory to be honest. Sad about Charlie cos with a run in the team still think he has an awful lot to offer at this level. Weston far too inconsistent. Must free up some decent wages now to get let PT do his thing. I suspect Whelps will be off and we may struggle to keep Bayo too. Exciting times ahead!

A lot of people on twitter are very annoyed that Gregory has left the club, but I think we can only judge these decision until after we have bought players in.

Gregory will be a big miss, I know that destructive players aren't usually fan favourites and he has recieved alot of undue criticism. Hopefully we can see Lingazi stepping up next season

Good. No one we will really miss apart from Gregory but think we're going to be playing a much different style this year so maybe no need for a holding player. Glad were properly committing to Peter taylor, too many clubs half back their manager hopeing they somehow perform miracles, we're being realistic. Two year deal and the chance to really make this team his own and play his style. Exciting summer ahead!

Disappointed that Lee has gone as I think he can still do us a job. Plus the fact he was always committed whether he was on form on not. I'd rather have a team of Charlie Lee's over a team of Weston and Gregory's any day. Other than that though I think the rest were inevitable.

Charlie leaving is sad due to the fact we know what we can do and he is a very likeable individual, however it's somewhat inevitable after being on the transfer list twice in the last 12 months.

Weston is far too inconsistent as others mention and was probably on a decent whack considering he dropped down a division. I don't want to have to put my views on Gregory over sgain, so all i'll say is i agree with PT's decision (plus if Linganzi stays fit he could actually be a great player).

The others were expected and if we can keep Whelps and Bayo then that will be great, however i have a feeling they will both leave.

Now onto the recruitment drive, hopefully a few decent names to give us a more enjoyable season.

I don't see Lee as a great loss. You mention Weston being inconsistant and surely Lee would fall under that bracket too. In fact I think Lee is worse, as you said we know what he can do, so the fact he isn't achieving those standards can only show he simply didn't care about the team.

    Hi Members,

I've noticed links might be morphing from it's original link to the not606.com home page. ie Gills official site to not606.com home page.

If this happens, try switching template to view the original.

Dependent on your swear filter setting change it to the opposite template, scroll down to the very bottom left hand corner of this thread to change, until I can get it fixed.

    Hope this make sense.

    thanks brb

You've misinterpreted me BSG, I didn't say he'd be a great loss just that it's sad given he's a 100% every time individual who can be great. I then went onto say it was inevitable that he would go!

I don't think he give 100%, too many times last season and this one I have found his attitude disappointing on the pitch. He seems to improve once put on the list but when taken off he slips back into laziness. Although on his day he no doubt has talent

I think it is disappointing to see Charlie Lee go, he would be one of few players i would be retaining, from in and out of contract.

Lee's versatility will certainly be missed, he was quite happy to play anywhere on the pitch, when on his game he was equal to the quality that Crofts had. If Linganzi can step up, remain injury free then we have an exciting, young starting central midfield trio with Dack and Hess

l for one would like to see just how much of a saving we've made by releasing Whelps and Lee. It must have been a really convincing wage to get them to drop down from Peterborough...

My Thoughts on who has been released .........

Sam Baxter and George Howard - I thought we might have offered Sam Baxter a one year contract extension and I am slightly surprised that Sam Baxter has been allowed to leave, while I was expecting George Howard to go because ever since Sam Baxter has signed on the dotted line he has been our understudy goalkeeper to Stuart Nelson.

With Sam Baxter and George Howard no longer at the club and with Carl Muggleton moving on as well, I wonder if Peter Taylor is considering signing a experienced goalkeeper to be understudy to Stuart Nelson and also be our Goalkeeper Coach at the same-time ??? - we would be paying one wage to someone who will be taking up two positions in the squad.

Gary Borrowdale and Joe Carter - Both players have struggled to make the match-day squad and it was always likely that both players were going to be released in the summer, Gary Borrowdale was signed to give Joe Martin a kick up the backside but we only saw Gary Borrowdale on the subs bench 2 - 3 times since he signed for the club, and Joe Carter has picked up some nasty long term injuries during his time at Gillingham and I hope Joe recovers from these set-backs and gets used to playing competitive first team football again.

Charlie Lee and Myles Weston - Both players are on decent wages and with midfield being one of the key area's of the squad that needs improving over the summer then I can see why these two have been allowed to leave because we need to be stronger and more competitive in the middle of the park and we also need to add more pace on both flanks so that we can cause teams problems in this division, Charlie Lee is our highest wage earner and that is probably the reason why Charlie has left the football club, we saw some decent displays from Charlie Lee against Crewe, Crawkey Town and Bristol City, but we never saw those performances on a week in, week out basis and had we done so then Charlie Lee would of been offered a new contract.

Steven Gregory - Of the players on the release list I have to say that Steven Gregory's name is the most surprising, Steven Gregory has been one of our more consistent players this season and he does a great job protecting the back four and if there was a reward for the most improved player then I am sure that Steven Gregory would win that award.

Perhaps Peter Taylor can sign someone better in that position or maybe Peter Taylor feels he cannot sign a first choice defensive midfielder and keep Steven Gregory as back up, Peter Taylor has not closed the door on any player leaving the club today coming back to the club, but if you had to pick a player you want to stay from the release list then you would pick Steven Gregory.

Craig ***an and Adam Birchall - I thought Craig ***an was staying at Gillingham because his versatility will help in a small squad, ***an's experience has apparently helped the younger players in the dressing room and I don't think Craig ***an is on big wages either and with all of those contributing factors I thought Craig ***an was staying at Gillingham so I am surprised he has not been offered a new contract.

Even though Adam Birchall has been released I am still gutted he has gone, because I was at Ramsgate where Danny Kedwell and Adam Birchall played alongside each other and for that brief twenty minute spell you could see the partnership between Kedwell and Birchall and it was a partnership I believed that would score and create goals and we just never got to see that partnership on a regular basis, I hope Adam Birchall gets back to play competitive first team football on a regular basis and he can rediscover some of the form he had when we signed Adam in the first place.

Stephen Butcher, Sam Muggleton and Nathan Nyafli - I can see Stephen Butcher signing for Maidstone United and Sam Muggleton signing for Barnet, both players started the season as back up to Matt Fish and Joe Martin but as the season progressed, the signings of Michael Harriman, Elliott Hewitt and Gary Borrowdale pushed these two lower down the pecking order, I thought Stephen Butcher did alright on his debut against Colchester United, but maybe he wants first team football and Butcher knows he is not going to get that at Gillingham ???

And it is such a shame that Nathan Nyafli retired duo to injury, I was at Burton Albion last season and Nathan Nyafli scored with his first touch, he was taking players on and showing some great pieces of skill and I thought Nyafli could play as a right winger and give us that bit of pace down the flanks as we were missing pace in the side throughout the entire season.

I also think that it is only right that we thank every player who has been released for there time at Gillingham Football Club, none of them have disgraced themselves or acted un-professionally, the only thing I would say is that many of them found the step up to League One more difficult then anticipated, and that probably happens at all clubs who go up a division as the step up can be a step up to far for some of them.

Also the likes of Charlie Lee, Myles Weston, Adam Birchall and Steven Gregory were regular's in our League Two Championship Winning Squad in 2012 / 2013 so it is especially sad to see those players leave the football club, considering that they gave us our best ever season supporting The Gills last season (well last season was the best ever season for me anyway).

I also think that Antonio German and Amine Linganzi will either be paid off or someone will sign them on a season long loan next season, neither player have really played competitive football on a regular basis for Peter Taylor and I do believe that both players will be allowed to move on over the summer.
