Not really related to Pochettino, but since Spurs are being mentioned and our old friend Harry is involved, I couldn't resist sharing this (mostly about Spurs and Mr Redknapp): http://www.football365.com/mediawatch/9311254/Mediawatch

So Pochettino was nearly sacked by NC in December, but Cortese then had to convince him to stay when he was resigning from his position in the New Year? Sure.

We don't really know how hard Cortese tried to convince him. I think considering how Pochettino would have been significantly out of pocket had he left then, he probably would have come to the same decision whatever Cortese said.

I find that incredible, if not totally unbelievable. Why would he do that...if he did because our results were slipping, Nicola was even more of a control freak than we thought. Mauricio threatened to leave when Nicola (I suspect) starting putting it around that he might walk away, but that he told him when it actually happened that things had changed and he would stay. Have to say MP didn't look heartbroken when Nicola left, but I can't believe he faced the sack himself.

In a piece in The Times (which I think someone has posted elsewhere), someone said it is time for Southampton to harness their inner Cortese, recounting an occasion when Nicola just ripped up an offer for a young player in front of him (must have been scary).

Lets not beat around the bush, we have no inner Cortese or even anything close to it. We have a Krueger.

A Kreuger attack would seem to be like being savaged by a gerbil (and a talkative one at that), but suspect the board as a whole are tougher to deal with. Other clubs and agents may think we are here to be picked clean, but I think we will either come out the other side with everything intact or sizeable funds. I doubt that Katharina and the board are stupid, though they may not be so good at adding tricky little clauses to the contracts.

If their aim is to progress, but reign in the finances, then fair enough. But they really need to get the plan through to MP. Even on a sensible budget, with the youngsters here, that's got the making of progression. But, if they think they can cash in on a couple big tickets & let MP slip through the door with little damage, then they are at the wrong club.
I just want to know what the plan is, I expect our players already have a clue.

You could look at it another way, if Poch had gone and we had installed a newby, we wouldn't have to be going through the current trauma!

I considered that Nicola could have saved us the present trauma, but can you imagine how the fans would feel if he sacked Mauricio whom he had brought in to replace the popular Adkins. For Nicola to sack MP for a blip would confirm that he was a complete nutter. Just cannot believe it is true.

As for the Mail article saying that Mauricio has to speak English at interviews...he may well speak English at Spurs, but I doubt anyone at Spurs is saying anything about it before the deal is sorted. I think Mauricio's problem with English is lack of confidence and, sadly, having David to hand hasn't helped. He needs to immerse himself in the language.

A newspaper journalist who at least knows as much as we do.
Reading this article which nicely summarises and appraises Pochettino's career thus far and the news or rumour that Cortese was set to sack him. I wonder if the signing of Osvaldo was a factor. The fight with Fonte was after, but there were a couple of issues with him before. Considering the club went out on a limb to sign him on what we must assume to of been Mauricio's request then this would of been seen as a major misjudgement.

I have some promising news. I have just spoken to someone who works at the club and he says Pochettino is making plans for next season and was genuinely touched by the fans during the lap of honour. He also reckons he will stay if he gets money to spend in the summer.
