But Turner won't want to come and sit on the bench, it's as simple as that. If he comes, fair enough - but he'd have to be at least twice as good as he has been this season. Ben Turner might not be a bad shout mind, apparently he's out of contract and I thought did well for Cardiff. Looking at an "out of contract" list, I don't think Craig Gardner would be the worst signing in the world for us!
No to Ben Turner full stop imo. But we are going to possibly play alot of games next season - depending on how long our 3 cup runs last. We are going to get injuries and suspensions along the way so Turner will get his share of games like the rest. But for injuries to McShane and Chester this season Davies may have been able to have some rest. Managers need options and better option. M.Turner would give us that. I take you point but IF MT gets the chance to come back he will.
You might be on to something though - he was a Steve Bruce signing at Sunderland if I remember correctly. Put 2 and 2 together... who knows? The best years of his footballing career were here, so maybe it's just a case of coming home?
Agreed ^^^^^ this. Plus Dean Windass came home along with Nick Barmby and that did not end too badly either did it. You are correct on the SB/MT link as well. SB actually was quoted as saying that """"he stole"""" Turner from us back in 2009.
Nicky Barmby hadn't played for us before he came to City, though. He was just from Hull. You have to think about this from SB's point of view. I don't think Michael Turner could offer us anything different to what Alex Bruce could now. We just had a young CB win YPOTY, so I'm guessing he'll feature in pre-season too. It's a good connection, but I doubt it will come off. We need quality squad players and I think the wages Turner would ask for could be better spent elsewhere.
Turner is good value for money especially as he is a free agent. His wages wont be that bad for us either. The more FATS that SB can get the more wonga he has for the better players he is after this summer. It sure is going to be an interesting summer both on and off the pitch.
You always seem to have a lot of faith in our youth setup that doesn't seem justified looking at its record. For years we've had 3 or 4 youngsters sign pro deals every summer, play a few friendlies and then do nothing for the next 2 years before we release them. Looks like Dougie Wilson is the latest, he's just tweeted something about leaving today so I guess he's been released.
Well I'm just going on how we've been discussing youth in the media a fair bit and I know Bruce is a fan of bringing through youth team players. I just mentioned our YPOTY because he's a CB and he won an award. It wouldn't surprise me if Wilson left, I didn't think he was good enough.
Wilson is another one though he played in the cup and got released 2 and a half years later without playing a game and in that time only had a brief loan spell at Grimsby as far as I know. What the ****?
I'm not really sure what happened there, it was a similar situation with Emerton and Clarkson. But then if no clubs want to take them on loan, where are they going to go?
Shola Ameobi has rejected a contract from Huddersfield Town after Newcastle accepted a £1.25m offer.
Good points Tickler. I know MT is not the player he was when he was with us but with Faye released, Chester injury prone, and Macca being Macca we are going to need a backup CH and with our heavy schedule next season MT could be an ideal supplement if he's not on ridiculous wages. He definitely loved it here and gets on well with Bruce so it makes a lot of sense. I'd say him and Campbell are definitely in Bruce's plans at a reasonable cost.
Unless we lose Fryatt\Sagbo I cant see anyone more strikers coming in. Sentimentally it would be nice to get MT back but I'm not sure he is what we need, nor if he would want to be a bit-part player. However, I dont think the 2 or 3 starting CBs are nailed down every week, and SB seems quite fair in his team selections.
Sebastian Bassong wouldn't be a bad buy. Quick, strong, good in the air, experience... Not watched a great deal of football other than us this season but he's always looked mighty impressive, specially at the Toon all them years back.
