"The standard for our chairman?" Wasn't there a couple of guys who were on the board for ages (from St Nicholsons' time until Irving Scholar got control in the 80s) ?? Cannot remember their names offhand (would have to dig out an old match programme from the loft) .
I think that while there's no doubt he got screwed two years running by having his key player yanked away at the last moment, AVB on the most basic level got it wrong with the squad this year (though maybe not last, I think.). Having them go out and play a game or two with a slow buildup possession-based style might have been okay as a shakedown cruise. But keeping them playing that way was a misuse of what we had, which was considerable attacking talent in need of a loose leash. The way the goals started coming, and the points increased when Sherwood came in showed both that, and that, on the most basic level, Sherwood had it right.
Sherwood did a lot right, but he's a right gobshite and he clearly pissed off a number of players (notably Sandro, possibly our best player when fit) and from the on-field demeanour of a few others its fair to say they weren't willing to fight for him for whatever reason. So, thanks for the improved points tally and slightly better football (but also with lack of tactical nous) and good luck in the future, but i think it was right he went.
"Anyone want to place a bet on how many of the youngsters get released at the end of the month?" Didn't Spurcat say there might be a serious clear-out this summer ??
Darren McQueen's joined Ipswich: http://www.itfc.co.uk/news/article/bishop-and-mcqueen-agree-deals-1541335.aspx
Spurcat said that one was done and dusted last week. Just checking his post again, Kevin Stewart to Sheffield possibly.
If you provide links the mods can update it too. I could do the McQueen one but I wasn't sure if it was a loan or a transfer as it says it's a one year deal.
I read that Friedel will be signing on again, he must be one fit guy to be good enough at, what, 43? Sad to see Gomes go, he was a great character. Sandro can't speak highly enough of how he helped him settle into the club and country. He made saves that few keepers would be capable of. Shame he let a few in that I'd be disappointed to concede.
Same here - I still like the idea of a risk taking goalie and was happy to take the rough with the brilliant!
Best of luck Heurelho, made saves that probably no other keeper could but then made mistakes that probably no other keeper would.
