... is currently available for the next 6 days on BBC i Player, and is a must see,if you haven't already seen it,that is. It's all about Brian Clough's 44 days as manager of Leeds United, and stars Port Talbot's Michael Sheen, as Clough. Rivetting stuff for the ardent football fan.
Watched a couple of times ,the film captured the era well ,Clough if nothing else was more than confident in his own ability although player power did him for him .Dirty Leeds, never a truer title given to a football team .I remember watching the 1970 FA cup final which went to a replay and Charlton and Osgood (who was ) having a running battle .Hard to believe there was only one booking in a game where today we'd seen at least 4 red cards . Men were men then
He was very good as Revie, but Sheen gave a stunning performance as Cloughie. He looked like him, sounded like him,and had all the mannerisms. Leeds had some great players back then, but as Clough pointed out - nobody loved them. What a gross understatement that was.
I watched it again last night again brilliant film sheen and spall and moody are great actors , I can't imagine Clough asking Taylor "please baby take me back I was wrong n you were right I can't do it without you " etc ! I liked Billy Bremner as a kid he was hard as nails and scored some crackers.
I remember spending hours trying to bend a ball like Lorimer (the Brazilians too) but have to say Gary Sprake was the draw for me. I really like goalkeepers. (not in a woopsie way)
