Sorry Angelic, I have to disagree with you mate. The England team for years has been made up of players who are more concerned about what their (usually foreign) manager has warned them about not getting injured playing for England - sometimes understandably as it's playing for their clubs that is their day job.
Rooney for example has to be the most over rated player ever to pull on the shirt - his petulance over spilled in his rant in SA. He at best looks lethargic and worst disinterested. He rarely makes a decent pass and seems to be in the squad, well, because the press would be in uproar if he was left out.
I would rather have fatty Lambert in the squad than him.
What about Shearer or Scholes? Refusing to play for their country. And Sutton all those years ago - imagine a strike force of SAS heading up England - but they both ruled themselves out.
Ashley Cole has now 'resigned' in response to being left out - I bet he wouldn't if Jose Marinho left him on the bench for a few games!
Terry was shagging his England team-mates girlfriend FFS (we are talking about attitude and values here - I still admire Terry on the pitch)
DB cocked up against Argentina when provoked by Simione and I was one of those who for a while blamed, no, hated him for that, but gradually by his refusal to attack his critics and his attitude of getting on with it won me round.

As I said, he probably overstayed his England welcome, but he exhibits for me the raw simple values of a football player who loves his country and will pull on the shirt with pride even after being dropped unceremoniously by the 'wally' who was making a statement at the expense of results.

Using Beckham for the World Cup and Olympic bid was probably one of the best moves, if you was a marketing man it's a no brainer, you use what's the best to sell and that's what DB is a marketing dream.

I do remember the Greece game and in particular the free kick. As soon as he hit it, I had no doubt it was going in. Up until then, he couldn't have hit a cows arse with a banjo and was seriously off tune.

If anyone won that game it was Sheringham, involved in both goals and if you ask me, took a bit of a dive in an area that Beckham was deadly from.

    Its just old fashioned jealousy.....because

    ....they have it you don't
....they earn it by endeavour you are to lazy to to go and get it

..although some just get it thrown at them by those that fall into it

Suggest you rein in the personal insults and unfounded accusations, seriously. You know nothing about me so don't make it up

Beckham always gives his all on the pitch for England, sometimes a little too passionately (98 World Cup), and has worked just as hard as an ambassador for the national team, and for that he should be highly applauded.

His personal life is his business, and every one has their own view on that, but for me it can never taint his passion for the 3 lions.

It seems on this thread Beckham it is a bit like Marmite, you either like him or f**king hate him, personally I hate Marmite but love Bovril on toast or to drink, so there is always an alternative, I'm also am in the camp that likes David Beckham in fact I think he is a real asset to our sporting nation but his Mrs, I'll leave that up to you.

There was a FA training video which featured David Beckham taking free kicks, he is asked how he got that good and his answer is " turn up early and practice, stay on late and practice".

Nothing in football falls into your lap.
