Well said Filey. The Allam haters are projecting their own biliousness onto the true supporters. The lads are going to Wembley to win and Arsenal will take us for granted at their peril. I honestly believe the vast mass of the fans are excited about the Final. I certainly am. Its been a brilliant season and I can't wait to be watching us win the Cup with my son on Saturday!!
My fiancée's 4 year old niece came home from school yesterday with a letter stating they're having a 'Hull City day' at school on Friday, learning about the club and football in general - drawing pics of the players, kit, badge etc and getting their faces painted in city colours.
The problem is, like has been said before - the club is **** at engaging with local communities. a Premier League Hull City SHOULD be local kids team of choice, but for many, they aren't. The club don't do enough to entice them in. My local village has a few middle-age blokes who are of the age when they were young, Leeds were actually good - they support Leeds. Their kids? Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, even Newcastle. Like I said - a Premier League Hull City SHOULD be their team of choice. The club needs to do more off the field.
My brother received runner-up as supporter of the year once. He attended every home and away game that season, all friendlies included with one being an away match at Clydebank. He isnt even going to Wembley by choice. Another friend was the only other City supporting fan in my year at school who went to all the Torkey away games when we were bottom division, was there in the lowest ever league crowds. He isnt going through choice. I know of many many more who went to every single game a season in the bottom division who now consider going to games as 'a chore' and regularly give up their season tickets to any takers cos of the impact Allam has had on them. I know a few alright, it's just not the same ones you know. And the fact that we even have this thread, with almost every single person who has posted posing the questions 'where is the passion, excitement and build-up and why isnt it like 2008?' suggest to me that a lot do feel precisely the same. If they didnt this thread wouldnt exist. When in any of my posts did I say I wasnt excited about the final or we hadnt had a brilliant season on the pitch? Im sure some people read posts and change the details into whatever they fancy.
When I got with our lass her son claimed to support Liverpool cos his Dad (from Hull) does. I quickly got him a season pass and started his education which culminated in him being the Barclays mascot at the Everton game. He now walks round in City tops, singing City chants and can't understand how anyone from Hull could support another team! Job done I'd say!
My two great nieces are both HULL CITY fanatics They had been to a couple of rugby league game then I started taking them to the footy. They now don't like boring rugby. 2 of those long serving fans you know Mr Crab who by choice don't go anymore have been replaced by two young supporters who love going. I even told them I could get them £600 each for there cup final tickets and they said NOOOOOOO.
And Mr Booted has replaced another of your not going anymore friends with his girlfriend's son. Great
I've also got my twin 18mth girls waiting on the sidelines. They can already shout City so there's another 2 for the future.
Even better Mr Booted Very important we all try to get sons ,daughters nephews, etc to start going to City .
It was a couple of years now, but i've already convinced my 5 year old brother to be a City fan, despite attempts from both my parent to make him a Leeds fan. I used the promise of meeting Roary the Tiger. It worked.
