    Worth a seperate thread.

Huge mistake by the Club/owners IMO to let Dervite go. Rock solid in the latter half of this season, and more consistent that Morrison. Apparently had a contract offer, but Bolton paid more. In which case....offer DD a bit more at the expense of freeing up some more squad tat.

God knows who we can get who is "better" than Dervite, but a really poor start to the summer transfer dealings <doh>

    P.S:

What sort of message does it send out to Diego Poyet about Charlton being a club with ambition.

    Bolton, FFS

Yes this makes my blood boil especially as the player knows his stock is rising after putting in such impressive performances in the latter half of the season. This is what tends to happen so many good players go early without the board recognising their worth eg Hamer, Poyet etc

Absolutely stupid decision. I spent £600 renewing season tickets on the basis that RD would be strengthening the squad this summer. What a poor start.

I am disappointed that Dervite is going. I heard he spoke to Freedman in April. Bolton pay silly money which we can't compete with. RD is trying to balance the books and will not pay silly money. That is all very well but we need to be competitive. I have backed RD since he took over but the acid test is not only who we keep, but the quality of player he brings in. I will be outspoken as anybody if the quality we bring in is not there.

Don't worry, Vol - we are about to make some decent signings, starting with a two year deal for JR.

All will be good by the end of next week and DD will be nothing but a memory.

I'm not too fussed. Before March DD was an unimpressive bit-part player.

Also I don't want mercenaries at Charlton.

I would however retain Leon Cort.

I'm more concerned about getting Gomez on a contract. I bet AHLL is too!

Shock horror! Charlton see the back of yet another quality player, and a lot of fans don't give a f**k...
No worries though, we will let good players go, but better ones will be coming in, just as it happened in January...<whistle>

Dervite's a decent player, not irreplaceable. Gomez is a gem.

Has pen been put to paper other than a couple of journalists creating column inches in the quiet season? Yes it would be sad to lose Dervite if this is more than the standard article we get at this time of year but far more important is securing a manager for next season .

Gomez has the potential to be a regular starter (at the end of next season) whether Dervite is here or not..... FACT..... whether he will be ready next August??? I'm not sure...

If DD wants to go let him .
It's who we bring in that matters

So if DP says he spoke to Freedman in April , that was before the season finished, so could it be a case the lad wants to go, if that was the case is it worth keeping someone that wants to go

Gomez is still a punt at this stage, a lot can happen between now & when he is ready for first team Championship football. Surely he needs 20 games on loan at the lower level first to gain experience?-

Amazed how some people are nonchalant over Dervite going. That leaves us with Wood - who's form tapered off, to put it politely, and Cort, who plays about 3 games a season due to fitness.

Of course, an influx of new talent may well be on its way (<whistle>) but at the moment our squad looks thinner than a Somalian who has swallowed a handful of laxatives.

Philosophical, rather than nonchalent:emoticon-0101-sadsm. We know that Roland isn't going to compete financially with clubs who pay top dollar, so at this stage I'm not taking anything for granted with regard to contracts. I'd rate Dervite as our most improved player of the season, and would be sorry to see him go, but not as sorry as I will be if we lose Gomez to Chelsea for £200,000. The other worry is if we rely on our Fantastic European Scouting Network (F.E.S.N.) for a replacement.
