Afternoon all, back in the world of the living having lost my internet and phone line late Saturday night. My neighbour who is with the same company lost his at exactly the same time, so on Sunday morning phoned them up. The girl he was unfortunate to be connected to, insisted that it was his modem. She thought that mine might have broken down at the same moment. Silly girl, made even worse when she stated she had tested both lines and they were fine. It was quite obvious to us mere subscribers that there was something wrong with the line, but no they would have to send someone to check them out. By Monday they had seen sense and agreed there was a none modem problem, but it could take 72 hours to sort out. While I was out this afternoon man must have gone to the exchange and flicked a switch, so we are both reconnected. Just why do they have people on the 'help' lines who are so useless? For years my son who lives near Leeds would pick up his phone and hear Radio 5 live. I could even hear it if he phoned. It drove him and the people he was calling mad. He spoke to his help desk time after time and never spoke to the same person. As they had a script to follow he never managed to get the problem solved, until by chance he met a BT engineer who spent a great deal of time in exchanges. He said that he could solve the problem, and next time he visited that exchange it took him 30 seconds to do whatever was needed to stop it. Telecoms is a huge business making large profits. Why do they treat their customers so badly?
I would try a cruise but it would have to be a means to an end like going to Antarctica or the Galapagos on a small ship with like minded people.
Like a ship load of Hornets heading for a friendly fixture or two in sunnier climes? Personally, I'm not keen on Antarctica - ever since a workmate lost his life in the Mt Erebus disaster. True it wasn't actually a cruise, but a sightseeing trip is a sightseeing trip....
Reality is starting to bite. It's a sad day when all you have to look forward to is the relegation battle between Cowdenbeath and Dunfermline...
I went to Sunderland to meet up with friends that I first met on here back in 2011, I've now been to meet them four times since March last year!
We were thinking of going on that ship that goes up and down the Norwegian fjords . It doubles as a mail ship. Less of a cruise and more of a journey... and much more possible cost wise than the Antarctic which we have looked into. http://www.hurtigruten.co.uk/?gclid=COSJ74D0qr4CFZShtAodeGMA_g If Norway reads this he might have some advice?? When researching the Galapagos I have seen it is better to go on a small ship which has more accessibility and gets in earlier each day etc. The big ship cruises are not so good at getting close and as they have to cater for large numbers it takes ages to disembark on to the islands.
I am planning on taking Mrs W_Y to The Galapagos Islands in the next few years - she loves Tortoises and would love to see those monsters there.
Welcome back Frenchie... and you should get a better service than us as your telecom girl was most likely in Europe { I am quite pleased with that double meaning joke lol!} Meanwhile I was just installing a windows security update and my machine crashed... blue screen etc... came back on now... .but the question is do I go ahead with the update oh joy of joys....
Yorkie - my brother and his wife did that a year or two ago - they absolutely loved it - their first experience of a "cruise" - you got to see fjords really well of course and they went right up to Tromso before returning by road / rail
