Wasn't there a call for this to be England's National Anthem not so long ago?

It actually has lyrics. But they chose not to sing them.

At least it's not an inner city choir.

I think you're right. The lyrical version is ridiculously long.

Currently another 2 have no lyrics. Bosnia and Herzegovina and San Marino.

Spain has a proposed set of lyrics of just 16 lines as against the 42 lines of the full British national anthem.(6 verses)

I don't agree with the whole God & Queen thing but it's an old song & will come again when she hands over to the next King, so I understand that it's been around for years/centuries? Rule Brittania is a very good song but is about Britain, including those jocks, tafs & paddys.
Jerusalem is an uplifting song but building Jerusalem in England? Don't know?
So for me, we need a land, we need a hope & we need glory!

Im with him. Im a patriot but despise the monarchy. For me it should be Land of Hope and Glory.

You say all that Carmine but I know who I'd rather strump.

    Mooro all the way.

Thanks for this. I had not heard it for over 30 years and it brought many memories flooding back. Back in the mid-fifties my mum was a big fan of another comedian called Max - Max Miller. Remember as an early teenager listening to him with mum when he finished with one of his more risque ditties. He was banned from BBC radio for quite some time!
