DC has said that he'll take his time signing the right players for the club. For me this is a stating the bleedin' obvious thing to say. However, the other side of the coin is that those clubs who move fastest get the best players - remember the start of last season when we couldn't even field a full bench of subs. So, should we pile in now and start the rebuilding process purposefully, or take our time....? It's telling that we sacked a scout today - do we have any left? Does DC have enough contacts to get us the players we need to compete in the Conference?
Totally agree. Get in there and sign the players we want before other clubs sign them or the players themselves go on holiday for a well earned rest and cannot be contacted anyway. The sooner Clark signs the players he wants, the sooner he'll know what he has to work with. I can't remember which manager waited for the right players a few years ago and didn't get anyone.
Clark must have a good idea about who he needs. Hopefully Higgs is in his hot tub doing the deals right now. It's a horrible image, but let's hope he backs the manager and gets all the right players in this time.
Higgs in a hot tub, Christ that's a pot roast! I hope Higgs has nothing to do with the process, beyond opening his cheque book. His maladministration got us into this mess, he can buy us out of it. Let's face it, it makes sense to do so. We would be a far more marketable commodity as a league team with a flash new stadium, than as a Conference team with a flash new stadium.
You're right...the players need to get to know each other too, so the sooner they're signed the better...
There is a guy called gashead wes on the alternative forum. I reckon DC would be wise to look at some of the players he brings up as all seem to have a little something about them. Gasheadwes as our new Scout!!
I vaguely remember him from the old BBC606 was always coming up with names then too if it's the same chap. Give him the job.
Yeah I think I remember Gasheadwes from way back in the old 606 days - he must be a real student of lower league football, cos I've never heard of 90% of his suggestions. I read that he sent a list of potential signings to the club on more than one occasion but got ignored, not even an acknowledgment. And we go and sign Andy Bond and play him wide.
gasheadwes was offered a job at city but turned it down because it was city. fair shout to him as that could have been his way in to the game but he said no because of his loyalty to rovers. a player he has mentioned before was charlie austin before he joined swindon. i dont know if clarke is aware of what he has to spend yet as he may be waiting for the board to finish all their meetings to work out what they can afford!
Would Guernsey FC's Ross Allen be worth a punt? He scored 54 goals this season, including against Conference clubs: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27409122
54 goals in one season??? Get him in! At least on trial as scoring that many is a great effort at any level
Absolutely NO reason to hold fire....we are told that he has a list and that he has a good budget for next season, so what is stopping him getting on with it....I would hope to see at least three players signed/about to be signed next week
Yes we need something to happen in the next couple of weeks if we can get in a couple of players then we have something other then the board and stadium to talk about
i think talks with players have already begun. but remember players will have to think hard about it. they may want to come to us and fight for us but they may not want to drop down to the conference. they also may get other offers at the same time and weighing everything up. also joining us may mean the player may have to relocate so these things takes time. also some players we may be after may not be out of contract until the end of june and they could be holding fire to negoiate terms with other teams while waiting to see if they will get a renewed contract at their club. not all teams have made a released list yet. some hungry youth players in the higher leagues may still be waiting on his own future at this club. not many teams at all are signing players yet. things are surely being done behind the scenes and remember clarke said he wont be rushed into making signings. he wants to make sure the right players come in to keep a good balance in the team and the right players with the correct attitude who will fight for clarke and the club. clarke has publicly said he wasnt happy with the recruitment here and he believes looking back before he joined that the recruitment here at the club has been poor for years. time to trust him. he will come good. law of averages say we should get a good manager very soon at some point. surely it has to be clarke!
I would say that any player in the English football league, which you ain't will have to be ****e or old to drop down to the basement. I would if I was you ( which I ain't because I support a league team) be expecting players from the conference or lower who wants to step up.
