Just listened to an interview with Ashbee from yesterday's David Burns show. What a fantastic bloke Ashbee is. He spoke about what he does now and about his football days but the bit that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up was when they re-run the commentary from when he went up to lift the cup. He talks fondly of the City and its people and describes what that day was like. He is working for ITV pitch side on Saturday along with Deano. Really worth a listen, especially interesting from 01.08 but especially interesting from about 01.15 http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01ykzc5
I love the rugby league trailer they keep repeating. Heard it three times this morning in 45 minutes. This 'magic weekend' league game between fc and hkr who are both in the bottom half of a 12 club league with no chance of winning it or getting relegated, not to mention they have already played each other three times already this season is the greatest sporting occasion this city has ever seen according to them. Its also the biggest game in their sport 'If not worldwide' The last time they played, two weeks ago the attendance was 10,000. Also don't forget the 'city is divided' I posted a spoof post on here last week from RL HQ saying due to the massive demand for tickets they are to open another section of the stand at the Etihad on Saturday. Today the RL announced they are to open a section of the upper tier 'for the first time in magic weekend history (its the second time they've played there) due to the huge demand on tickets. 100% mickey mouse.
It's going to be tough call in the bars of the shanty towns and favelas of Sao Paolo, Bogota, Lesotho and Harare. The FA Cup Final or Dewsbury v Rochdale Hornets. Gun fights and knives used as patrons wrestle for the remote control of the telly. Except in North Korea where Northcliffe Ltd have exclusivity and the Magic (sic) Weekend is massive.
